T60 - source doesn't work?

#1 Post by Grimnir » Tue Jul 07, 2015 10:48 am

Hi guys, I would like to ask you for advice.

I have IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T60 (two of them actually) and started to experience a specific problem with it.
One day, one of my beloved T60's just died withou warning. At one moment, it was running fine and smooth and the following one, it just went black and quite.
The following day, I tried to start it with the battery removed, and it worked! But then, after I shut it down, it stopped working again. Sometimes, when I try it, it runs, sometimes (in most cases) it doesn't.

Do you know what I could check? Is power source the villain? Is it possible to replace it?
I'm not very experienced yet. The most "complicated" think I did so far was replacing the fan and RAM.

I would be glad for any peace of advice.
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

Try this old trick:

Remove the battery, hard and media drives. Unplug the AC adapter.

Press the "power" button ten times in a row holding it down for ten seconds each time and thirty seconds the last time around.

Plug the AC adapter - but nothing else - back in and try to power on.

Good luck.
