Warranty Upgrades
Warranty Upgrades
I have an X230, type 2306. The original owner extended the warranty to 3 years, but it is nearing the end of the term. Can I get a further extension from Lenovo? I'll call them Monday to check out the options, but if I can't get one, are there third party warranties that forum members have found reliable?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Warranty Upgrades
The warranty can only be extended once. Since the original owner already extended it once, it cannot be extended further. After three years, I'm not sure it's worth extending. The X230 is easy to work on should a problem arise.

Thanks... It's a loaded X230; I7, IPS, 8 GB RAM, SSD and new 9 cell battery. I hope it lasts for a while. I much prefer it over Lenovo's current X series offerings.ZaZ wrote:The warranty can only be extended once. Since the original owner already extended it once, it cannot be extended further. Re: Warranty Upgrades
Thanks. I called Lenovo during East Coast business hours and spoke to a good rep in Raleigh. There is an option for a "post warranty" extension for a maximum of one year after the warranty expires or if the original warranty had already been extended once. I had earlier entered my SN on the Lenovo Warranty site, but it returned "no service options available".kevinc wrote:ZaZ wrote:The warranty can only be extended once. I took the extension, at about $150 for 1yr Onsite service. They are easy to work on but parts costs can be high and if I sell the machine I'm sure I'll get some of the cost back if I have a few months left on a factory warranty.

Are you certain that the post-warranty service agreement is transferable, though?kevinc wrote: I took the extension, at about $150 for 1yr Onsite service. Re: Warranty Upgrades
Good question. Pilot error. I forgot to ask. I just read the agreement and transferability is not mentioned, though there is a prohibition against assignment without prior written consent "...which may not be unreasonably withheld." I'll give them a call...during normal business hours in Raleigh. I have 60 days to cancel with a full refund.ajkula66 wrote:Are you certain that the post-warranty service agreement is transferable, though?kevinc wrote: I took the extension, at about $150 for 1yr Onsite service.
