Older ThinkPads.. from the 600, the 7xx, the iSeries, 300, 500, the Transnote and, of course, the 701

I saw in the main 600E discussion that a 600E would read 534MB
IBM told me once it would only read 288.
can anyone help

Hi,

The ThinkPad 600E 2645-4AU will support only 288MB of memory as per IBM Support site:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... WIK-3Y74KT

"The system has 64 MB of memory standard and recognizes up to 288 MB of addressable memory in models with the new Mobile Pentium II processor. Current available memory options allow memory expansion up to 288 MB using two 128 MB SDRAM SO DIMMs in the two available slots for memory expansion. To achieve the maximum memory of 288 MB, the 32 MB SO DIMM currently in one of the slots must be discarded."

If there's a workaround, I'm not sure how it's done.

Hope this helps,
Peter

People who actually try it find that 256MB parts work just fine in their 600E's, even the ones that IBM says won't work.
