Warranty Upgrade

#1 Post by AtmosMan » Sun Jun 20, 2004 12:44 pm

Hey guys. I'm just curious: when I go onto IBM's website and go under a configuration screen for a T42, and look at the services upgrade section...there is no drop down menu for warranty upgrades. Does IBM have a webpage for warranty upgrades for T42's?

The website is http://www-132.ibm.com/content/home/sto ... cepac.html

It doesnt list the T42 but I am sure they will add it soon. These can be purchased at anytime as long as your machine is still under warranty.

The only thing that has to be bought on purchase is the Thinkpad Protection Plan (accidental insurance)

Interesting site Steve. But it says in bold that the warranty extensions are for professional/business use only...no personal computing. :(

To get a bit more specific on my original question...I know that the standard warrany on some T42s are 1 year, and some are 3 year (both depot repair...i think.) How much would it cost to upgrade a brand new T42 model to a 3 year onsite repair? (If i remember correctly...upgrading a T40 to 3 year onsite repair cost $119.) Is it still $119, or did it go up?

Even though it says its only for business I am sure you will be able to purchase the extended warrnty depot service with no issue. I have heard of issues where IBM will only do onsite repairs at business locations..although that is not entirly true.

As for the price..it think if you have a t42 with a 3yr warranty it costs $105 to upgrade it to have 3yrs onsite.

I would call IBM and ask about the extended warranty to see exactly what options you have as a "personal" laptop.

You could always just say you use it for business if they are picky on that.

I also want to upgrade my warranty to a 3-year depot service. I emailed them and they said it's only available for business and I need to give them my business name. Does anyone know how serious they are about my business name? Can I just make it up using my name or whatever, and will they check it later?

Thanks a lot.
