X250 TN Ebay grave mistake... Help..

#1 Post by zanta78 » Tue Jul 21, 2015 4:58 pm

Ill try to keep it short. So I am a student, and am in the market for a new laptop. I was looking at x250 on eBay, and one was going for 750$ with a dock. I5-5300u, 8GB, 500GB. So I made an offer for 600$ juts seeing how low I could get, and they sent back 700$. Instead of making a counter offer, I accidentally accepted. Before I could cancel the order (didn't know I could) they already shipped it!

So now I am here, 700$ in debt, with a TN x250. I have no clue what to do. I really want it, but 700$ is really expensive. So I have to sell my x201t so I can make it more manageable.

Should I just resell the x250? Should I keep it and get a IPS? I need help guys.

If you really can't afford the $700, then contact the seller, tell them what happened, and ask for a refund. Then you will only be out the return shipping cost.

What counter offer were you going to make? Something like $650? The difference between $650 and $700 is not that big, really. I think it's just the feeling that you perhaps didn't get as good a deal as you could have that's bothering you. I know that nasty feeling. But if that's all there is, it is possible to come to terms with it.

I do not know about screen-swapping in the X250, but if it is anything like the X220/X230, then it is a simple swap, and the screens are not so expensive. If you can do this swap and get an IPS screen, then in the long run the total price will not bother you so much, I believe, as you will be just enjoying your lovely machine. :)

It's just my opinion but when you buy the newer stuff or the brand new stuff on Ebay. It's most likely stolen as Ebay has long been a source of fenced goods. If you buy from a retailer like newegg or buy.com, different story.

I don't want to give you ideas but you could say you want to cancel the transaction because you feel that the item may be hot.

Are you sure about them shipping right away?
Nobody in their right mind nowadays ships anything out before it has been paid for.
You obviously seem to have paid them immediately!
You could have saved yourself the hassle and cancel the acceptance/transaction.
You should have just contacted either or both seller and eBay and tell them what and why.
Your story doesn't sit right with me...

I couldn't believe it either. I went to cancel it after a phone call with my dad, and I received a message saying "Sorry, but you can't cancel at this time. The item has already shipped." It couldn't have been 15 minutes after I won the item. Haven't even paid yet.

And I think I'll make payments, and save for an IPS.

Contact eBay, tell them you want to cancel, you haven't even paid yet either, but seller shipped already...
Worst case: you may have to pay for the return-shipping.
Seller can't give negative feedback, but YOU can!

Was it this one on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281750550147

That is the one.

I have it on PayPal credit, its not like I can't afford it. It is more of "is this justifiable?" Especially with the TN. I mean, maybe if I got it with the FHD IPS.

It should be in tomorrow. I think I'll just end up getting a IPS in the future, and have tiny paychecks for a while.

Obviously it hasn't been shipped. eBay doesn't know when an item is shipped. It only knows when the seller marks it as "shipped", which anyone can do at any time without actually shipping it.

If you haven't paid yet, I would hold on a little longer and wait to see if it actually shows up tomorrow. Something about this feels a bit fishy.

Do you think it is stolen? The seller doesn't have many items they are selling. Now I am worried I am gonna get ripped off. I can't take something that is stolen.

And I have paid with PayPal credit. 6mo no interest I believe.

Sounds like the seller already generated a tracking number, and looking up this number showed that the package is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Just keep it, use it for a while, and see if you like it. $700 shipped for this configuration with 3-year warranty and a dock is a very good price (though not SO good that we automatically suspect it was stolen). IPS is a luxury that a poor student shouldn't worry about.

Could it have been stolen? Sure, just like everything else being sold on eBay. You can't worry about every single possibility.

You're right. Maybe I'll sell the dock to help alleviate some pain. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Open a case against the seller on eBay for "Item not as described".
You should be able to return it at their expense and get all your money back.

Yeah, eBay is so buyer friendly these days I really hesitate to sell anything on it anymore, or at least document the heck out of it before I ship. I've heard horror stories about people using eBay to use stuff and then open a case on day 29 or something and the seller losing both their $ and the product they sold.

If you bought an x250 and got an x240, you shouldn't have any problems at all.

Edit: looking at the posting, it was either a mistake or outright fraud, because they included too many details for it to be anything other than that. They also have 2 more they're selling of the same type.

The title is saying i5-5300U
But the description is saying i5-4300U , which is a processor for x240, not for x250.

Nice eye! So we will see soon if he sends another x240. If so, I'm just going to get my money back.

So he told me he would not send me an x250 because he already sent me one. I opened a case with eBay, and am returning it. So now I am getting a t450 (almost a t550 but the screen resolution was terrible, and debated a y50...) With a i5-5300u, and 1600x900 (sadly no IPS for t450, wth). Can I swap a t450s IPS for my TN? Also, if there is ever a 940m t450, can I upgrade to that?

I think that previous seller was a scammer.

Before buying something else in a hurry (from the same bad seller?), why don't you give us a list of your requirements and budget?
We may be able to give you the exact details about which model to get.
And someone here may also have such a machine for sale.

That you want to spread your payments to PayPal is your business, but I think it's a bad policy, which you should cancel ASAP.

The latest PayPal trap: With our new Pay After Delivery feature, you'll get 14 days for your item to be delivered before money is deducted from your bank account.
Don't fall for that gibberish either!

At 18:17 I received this message.
We couldn't cancel your order because the seller already shipped it on Jul 18, 2015.

Here's the tracking number: Tracking Number:
At 18:37:49 PDT is when I paid with my PayPal account.

That is 20 minutes after he had shipped it.

And I bought the t450 from a previous seller, whom I bought my x220 from.

Also, I am in a hurry, my exams are next week.
Sorry if I seem snippy, I don't mean to be. I have just been completely honest.

As a student with a low budget ceiling, unless you absolutely NEED these brand new machines, why not get a decent older ThinkPad? I am a computer engineering student using an X61 - you'd have to pay me to take an X250 with a TN panel over it. If the resolution is a primary concern, the T500 with the WUXGA LG or Sharp panel is a good computer.

I agree that there are all sorts of things that appear to be wrong or odd with this transaction. In addition to all the suggestions made here, I would recommend that you also take a look at any seller's feedback, especially negatives, before bidding. I checked this seller, who has 1 negative feedback out of a total of about 127 or so. Not sure if that means anything, but in some cases you will see things that might give you pause.
