Can't activate Wi Fi in T430 Win 7 64bit

#1 Post by WBruce » Sun Jul 26, 2015 4:09 pm

Windows bit the dust on my wife's T430, so I reformatted the C drive, and installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit from a disk I burned from downloading an iso image. I'm trying to get all the drivers installed, but I'm having a terrible time. The one that is kicking my butt is the Wi Fi adapter. I can get online if I tether it to my phone with a USB cord, but I want to use the Wi Fi.

I've gone to the download center and downloaded and installed everything that even looks like it might be right, but no luck so far.

Here is an example. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product ... s/DS101715

Anyway, I'm stuck. I really need to solve this. I wish there was something that I could download that would just restore everything to the way it was when I got the computer. I couldn't get the recovery feature to work.

I may have to do this again as I'm not sure the hard drive is 100% ok, but let's just take one thing at a time for now. I need the Wi Fi working!

Looking in my device manager, the Wi Fi adapter is missing. Under Network Adapters, I have only two:
  • Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network connection (my ethernet connection)
  • Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device
No Wi Fi adapter. I'm missing:
  • 11b/g/n Wireless Lan Mini-PCI Express adapter
  • Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
  • Sierra Wireless WWAN Network Adapter #2, and
  • TAP-Win32 Adapter V9
I also have a bunch of stuff listed under "Other Devices" that have explanation marks saying they are not working, but we'll worry about that later.

Thanks! I saved that one and will try it when I get home tonight. I've tried so many and nothing has worked!

The switch is slid to the right showing green. I assume that's off.

Fn/F5 doesn't seem to do anything.

OK, I just installed that one and then searched for new devices in device manager. I got a balloon on the lower right that said Device's were not installed click here, so I clicked.

I got the following:
  • Universal Serial Bus (USB) Contoller -- No driver found
  • SM Bus Controller -- No driver found
  • Network Controller -- No driver found
  • BCM20702A0 -- No driver found
Soooooo, I'm still stuck!

Slid to the right, showing green, is ON.

I bet your wifi is under "Other Devices".

BCM20702A0 = Bluetooth, driver here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds029104

Check in C:\DRIVERS when searching for drivers on your laptop.
They may have been downloaded and extracted there, but need to be installed manually, like in the good old XP days...

The other stuff didn't help, but this did. I installed the blewtooth driver, fixed that. I went to the C:\Drivers when searching for drivers and got the wi fi working, there's still a few more I gotta fix, but the're not urgent and will take some experimenting.

But the long national n-i-g-h-t-m-a-r-e is over.....

I had to do the dashes because this website edited my post without my permission!
