T42- I appear to have bought the wrong replacement speakers!

On revamping my T42 I had hoped to get the internal speakers working again by replacing them. They stopped working many years ago and it wasn't an issue as I always used earphones or external speakers which worked and continue to work just fine. However it seems I bought the wrong ones as they are slightly different in shape and therefore don't fit in my T42.

Can anyone identify them? My original T42 speakers are the oval shaped ones not round like in this picture.

Thanks, that'll be why they don't fit then, at least they only cost a few dollars.

I didn't think of it at the time but maybe I can still use them to troubleshoot my sound problems by plugging them in next time I crack the old girl open.

Check if there's an FRU # somewhere.

Good spot!!! Genuine Lenovo Thinkpad 39T0801 T 43 R52 Speaker Information.

Is this likely to work on a T42 without causing any problems? I'd consider plugging it in just to troubleshoot if my problem is with the original speakers or not. I'll be looking to boot up linux from disk as well I suppose although I've no idea how that's supposed to work in reality.

Those speakers will work, but just not fit properly.

Checking the T43 and R52 HMMs reveal that:

FRU 39T0800 --> Speaker for T43 15.0-inch models --> compatible with all T4x 15.0 inch models.
FRU 39T0801 --> Speaker for R52 (all models)

The R52 I disassembled was a 14.1 inch, but its speaker assembly looks just like the one you received.

So yeah, you bought the wrong speaker assembly.

Don't worry about plugging it in. I did that too when I transplanted the R52 board onto a T42 chassis (that turned out to have dead speakers).
