Does the T61 6463-4YU (08/09) have a Wifi?

I opened it up and it seems to have a small, squarish thing named "Anatel". But my Ubuntu 15.04 shows no Wifi. If it has no Wifi, what are my options for getting Wifi?

6463-4YU initially came with an Intel 802.11agn (n-disabled) card, according to a model type lookup. Download a copy of the Hardware Maintenance Manual from here: http://www.thinkpads.com/support/hmm/hm ... 546_04.pdf and look at section 1090 for the location of the card.

Also, double check the position of the wireless on-off switch, located along the front edge of the laptop near the left side. When set ON, you should see a green indicator on the switch. There should also be an LED at the bottom of the LCD in the shape of an antenna with "waves" on either side of it. Check the BIOS Config/Network settings. There may be a Wireless Radio On/OFF option there.

. . . no real wifi, is there? Nope. Opened up and no, I need a wifi chip. Any advise for what and where to get it?

Take off the keyboard and have a look to see if there is a wifi card is installed. That is the fastest way to find out if you have wifi.

Problem solved. Your next problem is finding a wireless card. The T61 wiki recommends the Intel 4965AGN. I have one myself in a T61. Ebay is the place to find one. If someone else has a different card suggestion, post it.

For Linux environment, Lenovo abgn (Atheros chipped) FRU 42T0825 or 42T0827.

If you have modded BIOS installed, Atheros 9380.

Both of these will run cooler than 4965AGN as well.
