T450s excessive fan activation

#1 Post by uks4z » Tue Aug 04, 2015 6:55 pm

Just purchased a t450s. The fan seems to activate for every little activity and while it doesn't sound like an airplane, it's still loud, very noticeable, and distracting. Even something as light as opening msn.com causes the fan to come on without fail. The site has pictures and a few non-flash ads, but it's not excessive by an means. Going to youtube.com without playing any videos does the same thing. The fan will cut off after 30 seconds or so, but if I start playing a video, fan comes back on and stays on throughout. The laptop is sitting on my desk, so it's not like it's not getting any natural ventilation as if it was on a bed.

I'd hate to return it just for that, because it otherwise works fine, but it's driving me crazy. Thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks.

Try limiting CPU speed or turning off Turbo Boost. Lenovo Power Manager has those options.

We got in a T450s (with an i5-5200u) last week and the fan was so quiet I could barely hear it, even during benchmarking and other heavy use. Maybe yours just has a noisy fan.
