Question about Dell Precision M4800 input devices

#1 Post by oeuvre » Wed Aug 12, 2015 9:01 am

Hi,

I have an HP ZBook 14 which I am planning on selling to get a quad core machine for game dev, video editing, etc.

I used to have an M4600 and it was a lovely machine. I recently sold it to a friend. Now I'm planning on whatever machine I get, to have at least K1000M, matte FHD is a must (will not consider larger resolutions [scaling] or lower ones). I'm planning on buying my own SSD and RAM anyways since it'll be cheaper.

I make both 2D and 3D games in Unity 3D. On my ZBook 14, I'm used to testing 3D games by using the eraserhead to change the camera and WASD to move. However, I could not do that on my M4600 due to the driver not having a TouchCheck feature for the pointing stick (it does for the touchpad though). Anyone here know of a driver that would allow me to control that for the pointing stick?

I'm also considering the ZBook 15 as well, but I really do prefer the keyboard of the M4800 over the ZBook's.

Figured it out. If you want to use the eraserhead and keys at the same time, just kill the "
apmsgfwd.exe" process in Task Manager. No need to kill the other Alps processes. This way, you still have gestures and scrolling working fine.
