Lenovo ThinkPad T420 Core i5 for sale

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Thu Aug 13, 2015 11:54 pm

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T420 for sale. It has a Intel Core i5 2.50GHz 4GB RAM.
Comes with a built in Webcam, FingerPrint reader, CD/RW/DVD-ROM Drive, 2 USB 2.0 Ports, 1 USB charge Port "Yellow" eSATA Port, HDMI Port, Card Slots and VGA. I installed a 32GB SSD drive in it and left it blank for any OS you want to install on it to make it easier. Also has the extended battery, and holds a charge. No AC Adapter but i'm sure Everyone on here has this type of AC Adapter for having lots of ThinkPads. Its the type the 60,400 models use.

Asking $200 for the machine and free shipping via PayPal.

Reason for selling it. I was wanting to get a new ThinkPad and got the last one that had the real keyboard and the T420 is the last before the T430 chiclet keyboard. My problem is the trackpoint mouse buttons are set flush with the palmrest and don't feel right for me and don't sit up high like T61, and the touchpad mouse buttons are too small. So I'm just going to make my ThinkPad T61 my main laptop and max it out. I do how ever like the LED screen but have to sit in front or it gets shading color mix if anyone know what I'm talking about.

And I can see the yellow effect LCD jump next to the LED on T420.

Has anyone had this problem while using the ThinkPad T420 and T420s? My thumb will rest on the palmrest while using trackpoint and then when I want to mouse click the palmrest sits alittle higher then the mouse button does and I press on it instead of the button and bothers me. I did a side by side compare of my ThinkPad T61 and T420 and I will say the T61 feels better to me. Plus the touchpad buttons are smaller on T420 compared to my T61.

Sounds like a fitment issue to me if that's the case. On my T420 the sides of the trackpoint buttons are at equal height with the palmrest, but on the bottom they're definitely higher. My thumb rests on the inner parts of both trackpoint buttons (for either hand - I'm ambidextrous with the trackpoint) and I never have an issue actuating them.

Also, the touchpad (ew) buttons are bigger than those on the R61 and T61 14" 4:3 I have next to me.

Yes...that is the one thing I dislike about the T420 models (besides the 16:9 ratio screen). The placement and shape of the Trackpoint buttons (and this of course applies to the T410 as well) just doesn't feel the same compared to other ThinkPads. I noticed it a few years ago the first time I used a T420...it felt like my hand was 'cramped' into a smaller area and using the Trackpoint and the buttons wasn't comfortable. I have been reselling a number of T420 models lately, and although I have gotten somewhat used to the difference, they still just aren't as comfortable to use as other models. They changed the design again on the T430 and other models of that time, and those are basically perfect...the best Trackpoint buttons I have ever used IMO.

I will say that on the T420's I have here, all of the mouse buttons sit just slightly above the palmrest..not below as you are describing.
I lost count...
