Hi all, first post!
I recently bought an i5 X230 to replace my X220i and I'm having a problem with the battery - I bought what was sold as a genuine 44++ battery from an eBay seller about 2 years ago and it's been perfect I my X220.
I've been using it in my X230 for about a week with no problems until I've tried to put it on charge today and got the 'battery not genuine' message! Anyone got any idea why this would randomly happen? I'll be gutted if I can't use this on my X230... I always thought it was genuine as the seller told me it was, it looks genuine and it's always held really good charge!

Re: X230 suddenly decided my battery isn't genuine
Welcome to the forum.
You can use a (charged) X220 battery in an X230, but you can NOT charge it there.
But you can use an X230 battery in an X220 and charge it there as well.
X230 and its contemporaries all expect batteries with an authentication chip in it.
Blame Lenovo!

Thanks for the reply!
I'd read about the chip at the time I bought the battery - so I ordered the 44++ which should be the correct one with the chip in for an X230, in case I ever upgraded!
I thought I was being clever - it did work for a few days but it looks like it may have backfired trying to get one on ebay?

Well it's started charging in the X230 again - anyone shed any light on why this might be happening and whether I'm doing anything wrong? Or if it's just a fake/ defective genuine battery?
