T530 Brightness - Can I increase the number of steps?
T530 Brightness - Can I increase the number of steps?
My T530 has 10 levels of adjustment from darkest to brightest which I assume is standard?
It would be great if I could have one more step between the darkest and second darkest brightness setting, anyway I can do this?
There seems to be more of a significant change between these two settings than the other nine where it jumps up from overly dark to what I consider to be pretty bright when I'm in a pitch black room at night.
Overall loving my 'new' T530, managed to get my hands on a AUO V4 FHD screen and put the 1600 X 900 HD+ in my trusty T510, I don't know how I put up with the low res screen all these years!!

Re: T530 Brightness - Can I increase the number of steps?
The AUO V4 FHD support 16 level of brightness, (from 0 to 15), some other LCDs support up to 100 levels, but when you change the brightness via the keyboard (Fn+..etc) windows rounds the number of steps to 10.
You can use a 3rd party tool to adjust levels based on number of levels the LCD support.
This is a tool I created to do that:

Thanks for posting this. Wonderful tool.hhhd1 wrote: This is a tool I created to do that:

I only had 7 brightness steps in W10 on my X61. The lowest 3 of 10 steps were identical. Really bad with a LED backlight mod.
Re: T530 Brightness - Can I increase the number of steps?
Wow, great stuff HHHD1,
Just what I was looking for!!! I assume this will have no conflict running in tamden with F.lux?
EDIT: Installed! Using the slider I effectively have 101 settings, incredible! However for the time being the Fn controls continue to stick to 10% increments.
EDIT EDIT: Now you make me question whether I truly have a AUO B156HW01 V4. as you mention this model only has 15 settings. The hardware ID shows up as MONITOR\LEN40B2 which seems to check out.

There should be no issues with F.lux.Recife wrote:Just what I was looking for!!! I assume this will have no conflict running in tamden with F.lux?
I doubt that this is enough reason to suspect that your monitor is not a real AUO V4.Recife wrote:EDIT: Installed! Using the slider I effectively have 101 settings, incredible! However for the time being the Fn controls continue to stick to 10% increments.

I also have "MONITOR\LEN40B2",
the difference in settings (15 vs 100) may be because of different revisions of the same monitor
According to this:
http://www.panelook.com/B156HW01%20V4_A ... w_686.html
there are 2 versions: (also, there maybe more than those 2, but not listed)
B156HW01 V4 HW0A_Ver0.2
B156HW01 V4 HW0A_Ver0.1
I also think that maybe the iGPU have some effect on this.
The one laptop that I saw having 100 levels of brightness is ivy-bridge, (with a cheap 1366x768 LCD)

Nice bit of information there, thanks, I'm not sure which version mine is but it's certainly top quality!
Is there any way I can up the number of Fn+F8/F9 steps as they are still set from 0-10.

Re: T530 Brightness - Can I increase the number of steps?
No problem buddy, having ten times the adjustability is way beyond what I could of hoped for when I first made this post.
You keep up the good work! Thanks again!
I also just realised once I click on the brightness control icon and the slider appears I can use the left/right directional keys for 100% accuracy which is much better than using the mouse to scroll the slider back and forth for fine tuning!
