T410 shuts off on the start up itself within in few seconds

#1 Post by Krouze » Thu Aug 20, 2015 12:33 am

I have bought a new mother board for my T410 before 1 week. It was working fine. All of a sudden it started switching off automatically. I have thought might be heating problem and cleaned heat sink and replaced with new thermal paste. Still the sane problem. Only the main screen i can able to see and laptop switches off. When i kept my hand on heat sink where the cpu lies its heated up more. But fan was running as i see.

I have some questions over here. If the heat sink got a problem then at least the laptop should work for a minute or 2. But in this case its in 5-10 seconds.

I am confused here what's wrong with the laptop. ? Whether the heat sink got the problem or the mother board or the procesor?

Can anyone guide me whats to be done here? Waiting for your replies.

When is restarts, does it boot into Windows just fine?

If so can you check your CPU temps? I'm trying to rule out a defective fan.

My other question is, did the motherboard come with a warranty? If so, contact the seller and see if you can get a replacement.

It does sound like a CPU overheating problem. Did you put a THIN layer of thermal grease on or a thick layer? Use as little as possible to cover the entire contact area of the CPU/heatsink. Also, make sure the heatsink contact area is completely flat against the CPU contact area and that all of the heatsink screws are in.

I have a cranky T410 as well especially memory swaps. I had to do cmos reset by taking any main battery out and cmos battery disconnected, press power button for several seconds. I think the AMT or something sensed that difference.

Cheers, thinkpadcollection
