Crumpler backpacks for T42 15" w/ 9 cell ext. battery

#1 Post by pavel » Fri Jun 03, 2005 11:26 am

Hi,

I am trying to find a backpack which:
  • would fit T42 15" with 9 cell extended battery;
  • would be very durable, comfortable to carry, and provide a good deal of protection for the laptop (I am going to use it riding a bike on occasion);
  • would not tell everybody around that I am carrying the laptop;
  • would not be too big.
So far it seems that Crumpler's are a good match, and I like their styling.

I believe that the sleeve of Team Player is large enough but the backpack itself looks somewhat bigger than I would want to carry everyday.

Base Toucher and The King Single seem to be of the right size, but I am not sure whether laptop compartments of those backpacks will accomodate the 15" T42 with extended battery. Specifications give slightly smaller width (by 0.5 cm / 0.2 in for Base Toucher and by 1.5 cm / 0.6 in for The King Simple) and length (by 2.7 cm / 1 in for for Base Toucher) than direct measurments of the laptop, but on the other hand from the pictures it seems that the sleeve in Crumplers is not very rigid and given some reserve in depth I would think that it might be possible that the sleeve would "bent" a little to fit the laptop.

Has anybody tried to put 15" T42 or T43 with extended battery into Base Toucher or The King Single?

I've been wondering about one of their bags for exactly the same system (T43p, 15"). I'm interested in a new daily use shoulder bag and like The Considerable Embarrassment: http://www.crumplerbags.com/cartIndex.p ... ag&catId=5 but it seems it might be snug for the depth of the laptop with the 9cell.

What we need is someone who knows the crumpler bags well!

I don't quite understand; most likely it's because I am not a native speaker. Which surface are you talking about: the one which is inside or outside, and how is housing related to that? Do you mean that the fabric is not easily washable? Could you please elaborate a little bit?

P.S. Could you advise any other backpack given the criteria in the first message?

Pavel, from what I can tell, you're speaking much better English than beerak.

I have no idea what he's talking about either.

My guess is that he means "SERVICE". But I have no idea aobut housing.

Please note that Beerak is located in the EU, and English is probably a second language.

Perhaps he meant,"I have one (Crumpler) at home in original packaging"?

Oh, I thought it meant the inside surface of the bag wasn't idea. Like perhaps it's very rough and damages the thinkpads surface. But I have no idea. I'd like to know too.

Right. I know he's from another country, which is cool, but it seemed as if pavel was starting to doubt his own english speaking ability, which he doesn't need to do, as he's speaking quite well.

Yes Plinkerton, my english is terrible I know you know everyone knows but that's not the case I do my best and I can't do more although I try :-(

With the housing I mean bloody wooden box where you store clothes ... box, case, casing, chest, cubicle, rack ... [censored] ...

The surface = the material of that bag is too rough and annoying

[censored] how do you call bloody wooden boxes where are your clothes ?!?!?!? :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock:

I will try to explain what I mean, the inside surface is really good but the outside surface of that bag is terrible. When you walk it's like you have emery paper on the bag.

I can't speak to the sizing, but can vouch for Crumpler's construction. I've been entirely happy using the Very Busy Man for my 14" T42 with 6 cell. The computer compartment is well padded, the interior fabric smooth, the exterior tough, and the look stylish. Edited to add: the rough-ish exterior doesn't bother me, but obviously tastes vary.

Dresser! :D

That's the word you're looking for.

I didn't mean any disrespect of your English speaking abilities, I just didn't want to see Pavel doubting him/her own English speaking abilities.

Where are you from, by the way? I don't recognize that last sentence.

Hmm dresser, I have to remember it :-) That's not a problem buddy I have to improve my english ;-) complex sentences are still hard for me ;-) And express my feelings is impossible ;-)

The last sentence I will keep in secret, only Pavel (it's him) will understand, as I expect ... :-)

I've been using both a backpack with a CaseLogic sleeve inside and the same sleeve inside a bicycle messenger bag, biking to work, as well as several other bag combinations (ex-photographer--lots of nice roomy bags) and am finding that the bike messengers use the bike messenger bag for a reason--it's much more comfortable and doesn't stick to a sweaty back. So I'd go with The Considerable Embarassment if bike comfort is the issue.

That's the one I'm looking at getting. I guess maybe when I get my T I'll just order the bag and if I don't like it return it. I'll let you all know what I find out.
