New CPU For t60 2623dau

#1 Post by illenic » Wed Aug 26, 2015 4:07 pm

Hey guys! I just joined up on here and I'm interested to learn about my laptop! :) I was looking into upgrading my processor... I found one that I think will do I'm just unsure of a few things..
On the title I found this is the little description it gave me..

Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 2.33 GHz Dual-Core CPU Processor SL9SD LF80537T7600

Socket 478, Socket M, Socket 479, PGA478

I've read a little bit and from my understanding it does work on the t60 I just wanted to confirm with the pros (you guys) :) before buying it! And was just wondering if the factory fan/heatsink will be good enough for the new CPU. Ive done some other upgrades already this one is bect on the list! Thank you guys the help is appreciated! :)

Yes that processor will work. However, I prefer a T7200 as it runs cooler, have slightly better battery life and is a bit cheaper than a 7600.

Hey! Thanks for the response :) I was looking at that one too.. But it's weird on eBay they are only like 2-5$... There was one at 32.99... Isn't that a bit odd...? The t7600 i found is cheaper then the one I trust for the t7200... What do u think?

I'm where you are at. Just go for the cheap t7200, unless you can guarantee that the more expensive cpu is somehow more efficient or cooler.

Get the bigger cache but don't bother with the extra ghz.

kk thanks i ended up getting the 7600... i couldnt find any 7200 that seemed legit.. but why do u say dont bother with th eGHz? isnt clock speed important?

What use is the speediest Ferrari when you are mostly driving during rush hour in the city?

The only obvious performance increase can be had if you replace the slowest component of the system, which is usually your hard drive.
The extra expense required for the fastest CPU would be much better spend for a more economic one together with a SSD.

It's a 330 MHZ difference in speed between the 2 CPU when and only when you need it at full power which is rare. But, nothing is free, where you pay is with heat and battery life. With that trade off, I prefer a 7200 over a 7600 as I seldom need/run my T60(s) at full power. Both are good CPUs so if you got a 7600, then enjoy.

ok cool thanks guys! i get what you mean. as for what was said by the harddrive its already upgraded.. so thats why i went right for the CPU but honestly i think the GPU would be the next slowest thing... but i know it cannot be upgraded... is it possible that the x1300 (64 MB) :( will bottle neck the new CPU??

On certain games maybe but we're talking about a CPU and GPU from circa 2008 so it's not hard to bottleneck both. A SSD by far is the biggest improvement to the overall computing experience.

The T7600 isn't any hotter or power hungry then the T2400. Probably less on both if properly installed.

I think my T7600 does not run hotter than the T2500 it replaced in my Z61p (T60p). Also in my other two Z61p I replaced T7200 with the T7600. I run the former Z61p as a music production machine, so I needed as much performance as possible.
Z61p x3 (C2D T7600, 3GB, 500GB SSD, BCM70015, Advanced Dock x1, Mini Dock x2)
X61 (C2D T7500, 3GB, 250GB SSD, BCM70015)
X61s (2GB, 120GB SSD)
X60s (CD L2400, 3GB, 160GB)
T43p (P M 760, 2GB, IBM Port Replicator II)
G40 x2 (P4 2.8GHz, 2GB, 60GB)
G41 (P4 3.46GHz, 2GB, 40GB)

I don't doubt that any T7xxx series CPU runs faster and more efficient than a T2xxx series. This is as it should be. I've never played with a T2xxx series CPU as they've been replaced as soon as I got a T60.

You're probably right on this but we were talking about a T7200 vs T7600.

Don't shoot me down in flames for supplying some benchmark results, but a quick look on http://www.youcpu.com/en/ for general PassMark scores:

T2500 = 882
T7200 = 1193
T7600 = 1312

However I do agree that for certain tasks a T2500 does not feel much slower if any.

Great thanks! Can I assume ur list is from the most preferred to least? And what's your opinion on intel SSD's?

No special order, take whichever one is cheapest for you.
I don't like the Intel SSD controllers, and the larger sized ones run hot, that's why they are not on my list.
I also don't like SSDs with Sandforce controller, hence the limited selection.
Mind you, these are my personal preferences, YMMV.

Ok cool thanks.. It's not so much price I'm worried about I just want it to be reliable and the fastest performance that works with the T60. Thanks for the info!
