fast CPU comparison for 4:3 t61. . . .x7900, x9000 etc

#1 Post by fanoftp » Wed Sep 02, 2015 4:02 pm

i've seen posts by members about their preferred cpu's for 4:3 t61's, but i'd really love to see some benchmark numbers for the chips listed below (and yes, i know benchmarks aren't an optimal way of assessing things but they do provide the benefit of "standardizing" comparisons).

specifically i'd be interested in knowing either 1) the win7 experience index [cpu value only] or 2) linux "hardinfo" cpu benchmark values.
1. x7900
2. x9000
3. t9300 [on mine: wei cpu=6.2 in w7 32-bit enterprise]
4. t9500
...any others (using special board mods or whatever, like some people have done to install 1066 fsb chips)

i'm especially keen on hearing anyone's experience with the x7900, because i haven't seen that discussed recently here and i'm thinking of installing one . . . mainly due to the lower price vs. the x9000 (despite the significantly lower L2 cache and potentially higher temps). would anyone still recommend the x7900 over the x9000 nowadays, if only for the ~30-40 bucks price difference??

A great website I use for CPU performance comparisons is cpubenchmark.net. There is also this thread... http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=101672

Anyway - the T9500 in my T61p gets a 6.1...

FWIW the T7600 in my T60p gets a 5.6 and the T5600 in my T60 gets a 4.7.

thanks for the numbers. yes, i've seen cpubenchmark.net but it (and another useful site, cpuboss.com), only gives values for "fancy" technical benchmarks like passmark, geekbench, and so forth. but i'm specifically eager to know wei and hardinfo values, since those are more for us commoners. :)

fwiw, my t7600 gets a 5.7 on 32-bit w7 enterprise.

I haven't touched a X7900 in a long time but unless you need clocks open, a T9300/9500 will give you more of a CPU for less money. And if you do want to play with overclocking, X9000 is the way to go.

So a ~$70 X7900 makes very little sense no matter how you look at it.
