t60 boots to graphics test

#1 Post by jltn » Tue Sep 08, 2015 6:30 pm

hello!

after consulting both google and this forum's search function i registered to ask my question and for future reference - im sure there will be more :)

i have a trusty T60 (2007-5DG) which has been in use a lot, every day, for eight years now. recently after many hours of use, the screen suddenly showed graphics glitches that were distributed in several columns.

after a cooldown i rebooted and after a few seconds everything went black. since then i cannot boot at all, the fan doesn't spin, the bios doesn't show, there is no beep even with HDD and so on removed. the only thing that shows is perhaps after 20 seconds a graphics test full screen black, full screen white, full screen red, green, blue, then different gradients.

even though it had never frozen up or crashed or given any other signs of overheating, i suspect that the mainboard has taken damage, possibly heat and/or age related.
different screen and the power button-battery-routine aren't working either.

does this seem familiar with anyone?
is there perhaps a post that i missed while using the boards search function?

thanks and greetings

Welcome to the forum!

Seems to me that the graphics card has gone haywire and that a replacement motherboard is in your cards.

Good luck.
