"T" Series Recommendation?
"T" Series Recommendation?
Hi,
I'm currently on the verge of buying an IBM "T" Series laptop [specifically The T41 and I was wondering if this is a good choice for me.
After browsing through this forum, I have heard some stories ranging from HD speed issues to LCD washout problems, and it has made me think twice so now I come to ask you people.
I will skimp on processor speed and video card, but I need a good fast HD [has to be 40GD or over and 7200rpm], 256MB or more RAM, and a 802.11b/g connectivity. In addition, a CD-RW drive is essential to me.
I tried to configure my t41 to have these specs, but it seems that I cannot. So I’m wondering how you people managed to customize your IBM Thinkpads to suit your needs. Again, if you have any other laptop recommendations, please say so. Anyways, thanks for your help.[/url]

There is certainly a computer out there with those specs. What is your price range? Also just for reference the onyl hardrive that comes at 7200 is the 60 GB one.
Here is one example of something that fits your specs though it is very expensive and most likely overkill for what your looking for.

I could've sworn I put the price range in my original post.
Oh well, however, my original intentions was about 1500~1700. But now, it seems I have to "up" the price range a bit. From 1800~2000. I'm willing to settle for, but it had better have good specs for me to shove out 2000 dollars.
Anyways, I think I'll have to look at other elsewhere. IBM's are getting a little too pricey for me.

After a lot of research, i had to decide between the t41p ( 2373GEG ) and an acer travelmate 800 series, so i went out and see the t41p in real, and guess what? it's absolutely amazing, i've never thought the screen would be that good after hearing bad things about it. I've never thought it'd be that lightweight and looking that good, and after 45 minutes my decision was clear
Sure, it's pricey, but with this baby i know what i get. In school there's a lot of Dells and HPs, some Gericom, some Acer and a few other brands, and after inspecting those i've always found something that bugs me.
The Dell with it's cheap (and i mean CHEAP) case, the HP with it's extremely bad support and also very cheap keyboard, the Acer which seemed ok, but i don't really like the keyboard, and also the build quality doesn't seem to be as good as a thinkpad, and i don't have to comment the gericom, do i?
and this was the first time i've inspected a laptop that just had everything i wanted, had a great keyboard, a good screen (in my opinion), an excellent case...
So, if you have to make a decision, go and see the laptop in real. no matter what brand it is, at least for me it's absolutely necessary to see the thing i'll be using 3-5 years _before_ purchasing it, because after you've purchased it it may be too late. that's also why i went for ibm apart from the great keyboard and all that, because i actually can use the thing for longer than 2 years.
PS: sorry for my poor english

you can phone the IBM sales line and tell them you want to see itbefore you buy it. They will refer you to an IBM business partner (someone kind of like Bill I believe) who sells to businesses in your area. They gave me the name of three distributors in Edmonton. These are not normal retail chains (ex best buy). I think that is your best shot.
