Changing CPU's in A20M...help....

#1 Post by SaberX » Sat Jun 04, 2005 6:29 am

I have a Thinkpad A20M with Celeron 500.I just p
found a thinkpad A21M with a
dead motherboard.But has a P-III 800cpu in it.
I replaced the cpu in the A20M(celeron 500) with the P-III 800cpu out of the
A21M and it's only showing up as P-III 650Mhz.
Any one know if theres a fix to show the P-III 800 as 800???
The A20m did come with with 700cpu's so i would guess the system board would
handle the 800.
I also updated the BIOS and still showing up as 650Mhz.
Please help.
Thanks
Bill

Well, it could be a BIOS issue. Or maybe the CPU you installed is a 133mhz buss cpu but your laptop only recognizes a 100mhz bus cpu. Just a guess.

Your A20m motherboard only cater the Celeron CPUwith max speed to 500Mhz and it has no Intel SpeedStep for the mobile cpus. If you put the Petium III onto it, it will slow download to the lowest speedstep and is about 650 for the 800 CPU. But at least your CPU is faster than the original Celeron. Your A20m model may be the 2628-3xx model.
