T60 not charging
T60 not charging
I'm trying to expend my little collection and i got a nearly mint condition T60 with Ati graphics.
The battery even is an original one staying alive for over 2 hours. Unfortunately there is no charger. I used one from my R60 (65W) and everything was ok, but
after some charges the charger gave up, connected it to my R60 and it was working ok but connected to T60 there was nothing, null nada zero power. The ThinkPad even shut down will not charge, with battery disconnected and only on AC power will not start. Its just working on battery.
My question is, did the mainboard brake? How can I check the power supply on the board?
Thank you in advance for help, I would like to keep it, it looks awesome.

Re: T60 not charging
Can you buy or borrow another charger? The original Lenovo one if possible? Also chargers were of different sizes, there was a 65W for X series and 90W for T series though 65W works fine with T60p.
If I remember correctly on T6x series there is a power circuitry that has the plug for the charger and is connected to motherboard.
See hardware maintenance manual.

Re: T60 not charging
Take the keyboard bezel off (you will also need to remove the palmrest and keyboard). Examine the cable that runs from power socket into the motherboard for any defects. Try reseating the connector as well.

Re: T60 not charging
Thank you for your answers, I took it apart and checked all know for me points with a multi meter. DC power is ok, so its not the power supply, on the board itself I do have ca. 20 V but on the output for the battery to charge it there is zero nada null nothing. It seems to me that some circuit connecting the DV input on the main board is defective, no visual signs of corrupted parts. So the easiest way to repair it is to replace the main board
Its a FRU 42T0120. Due to strange pricing in my region I do have another question. Can I install ANY board from a T60, even from a 14' in to my 15'? Or have I to put exact the same FRU board? The attached interposer is only for 15' models? Its a 2008-CTO enclosure.

Re: T60 not charging
As long as the T60 motherboard is from a 14.1" or 15" machine (non-widescreen), ANY T60 mobo will fit.
The 15" models have a separate extender, that's why the 14.1" mobos also fit.
T60 comes with either Intel, ATI X1300, ATI X1400 or (in T60p only) ATI V5200/V5250 graphics.
Any T60 or T60p with ATI graphics should use the 20V/90W charger, NOT the 65W one.
EDIT: The same goes for R60.

Re: T60 not charging
Thank you, I do have a question than, I do have a R60 with Ati X1400 128MB and it came to me with a 65W supply, my T420 (Intel) has exact the same 65W power supply. So R60 Ati can use a 65W supply? And the T60 Ati has to have a 90W supply?

Re: T60 not charging
I used to carry 65W supply from X61 Tablet (ligher) with 14" T60p (Ati Firegl V5200) and it worked. I kept the 90W ones home and in the office.
Now it doesn't. Small supply from T440s only charges T540p when turned off and not when powered up.

Any R60 with ATI should also have come with the 90W adapter.

Re: T60 not charging
I'd start with a simplest solution first - check power circuit fuse, the one located next to power connector on the motherboard. You can use your multimeter to measure resitance of the fuse or use it as an ammeter to bypass the fuse and measure current that flows from power brick to motherboard thru your meter (!!! do not forget to connect meters probes to a proper connectors !!! ).
