X201 RAM memory max?
X201 RAM memory max?
What's the maximum memory my X201 will take? I'm guessing 8 gb? If so, can it take a single 8 gb stick?

No 8GB sticks, max. = 2x4GB

It does take 8gb sticks, see here http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=120287

Re: X201 RAM memory max?
The Arrandale core-i processors are able to take up to 32GB (4x8GB). The W701 is able to do this since it has 4 ram slots. Since the X201 has 2 slots, it can take up to 16GB as Olwe mentioned.

Almost all of the above is incorrect.brchan wrote:The Arrandale core-i processors are able to take up to 32GB (4x8GB). The W701 is able to do this since it has 4 ram slots. Since the X201 has 2 slots, it can take up to 16GB as Olwe mentioned.
Dual-core Arrandale will only take up to 8GB, in 2x4GB format. A single 8GB will NOT work.
QC CPUs (Clarksfield) as seen in W701 are able to address 8GB DIMMs, and can consequently take 32GB presuming 4 RAM slots.

Re: X201 RAM memory max?
Apologies for the mistake. Seems like the X201 only works with 2x4GB sticks reliably. People have tried 2x8GB sticks and although it is recognized in the bios, the system is often unstable and memtest will fail: http://www.thinkpads.com/forum/viewtopi ... 43&t=92006
