LCD brightness problem in 600E

#1 Post by dwuell » Sun Jun 20, 2004 2:16 pm

LCD is dim and no longer (very) responsive to the brightness control: the screen turns on dim and remains that way - unless I apply pressure on the brightness slide or the area around it on the front cover. As long as I maintain pressure, the LCD responds to the brightness control as it should. Released, it goes back to the resting, dim state.
I opened the assembly - mainly just as a fact-finding mission - and made sure all the connections were tight. But I also found a strip of tape in between the front cover and the LCD near the brightness control - makes me suspicious that the problem might have occurred for the previous owner.
Any ideas?

600 LCD Brightness

#2 Post by Bruce Guttman » Sun Jun 20, 2004 9:07 pm

My best guess is the Inverter (the long, thin circuit card with the slider on it) is flaky.

One other thing, I had a 770 with a similar problem and there were 3 screws holding the inverter in place. Adjusting the tightness of the middle screw made the LCD work properly or not. I avoided buying an inverter card (for the moment).

Hope this helps.
