Key broke off keyboard

#1 Post by Jeff85 » Sat Jun 04, 2005 5:47 pm

A key broke off my T41's keyboard, specifically the down arrow key. However, I cannot seem to get the key to snap back into place, or rather, I'm not sure how it was connected to the mechanism between the base of the keyboard and the key itself. The key looks like it's situated correctly, but pushing down on the lower part of the key can cause it to fall off, leading me to believe the top of the key isn't snapped correctly. Can anyone give me any insights as to what I'm doing wrong?

It'd be nice if I didn't have to get a new keyboard, and unfortunately my warranty expired two months ago.

Not sure, but you may try removing the keyboard and peeping thru the metal holes on the bottom & see which part of the key isn't locking in place. I did that with a dell keyboard & was able to use an eyeglass screw driver to help it into place.

New keyboards are only about $30, so that's not too bad (luckly something major didn't break like the motherboard or LCD, they're hundreds of $$$).

Take a look at this post

The detailed description by javanaut helped me in relacing a down arrow key that had come completely unattached.

Actually, what finally worked for me was to take off the top portion of another key (like the PrtSc key). Then I could really see and understand how the "sawhorse" piece fit into place.
