Ati x1300 GPU help!
Ati x1300 GPU help!
Hey guys my t60 came with the lowest performing graphic card possible! And I really don't wanna change the motherboard in my system. You guys have any little tips/tricks for me to get a little better performance outta my GPU? It's even the 64MB model :/. But any little boost in performance? Thanks lady's and gents!
Cheers!

Re: Ati x1300 GPU help!
Well, your T60 could have come with the Intel GMA950, which would be even lower performance.
What exactly do you need this performance for?

Re: Ati x1300 GPU help!
ohh wow i had no idea that the intel version was the lowest. i just want it to be a bit quicker is all not for gaming or anything just to help improve overall performance and speed of my T60 i have a new CPU installed and some more RAM on the way and i just want a little boost of performance out of my GPU. thanks
Re: Ati x1300 GPU help!
also i forgot to add, i bought a VGA TO HDMI adapter although it works well and the picture comes out nice, full screen 1080P, i noticed my computer is a bit slower when connected to the HDTV, i just pretty much wanna help the performance of the GPU for that, and also not to hinder my upcoming upgrades.. RAM, SSD, and the new CPU i installed.

Max CPU is T7600, max RAM is 3GB.
SSD is the most important...
Alternative: install Linux, it will FLY.

I don't think there's much you can do to improve GPU performance, but I also don't think it's really making any difference for the things you mentioned. I would just not worry about it.

Re: Ati x1300 GPU help!
Alright.. Thanks guys. I have the max CPU already and the ram should be here soon, so if ur saying my GPU won't hinder those things then great! and Yes my SSD will be installed soon. Just a question about the ram I know the max of 3gb. But if you in stall 4GB with a 64bit OS. It won't use all 4 GB correct?

Sometimes it might use up to 3.25GB, usually it's only 3GB.

Alright thnx... There's no way to undo that is there? What other mobo's fit directly in the t60 chassis that have more space for ram? And maybe a better GPU?

A board from a 14" (4:3) T61/p can be fitted with minor mods. 8GB RAM, SATA II with Middleton's BIOS...definitely worth it presuming that the system is a 15" IPS unit. What other mobo's fit directly in the t60 chassis that have more space for ram? And maybe a better GPU?

Re: Ati x1300 GPU help!
I tried ZorinOS on a T60 with a T2500 and boy was I surprised how well it handled a YouTube video out of the box!
It played smoothly (with perhaps a different frame rate) and audio didn't skip

What's the full 7-character model number located on the same sticker that holds the serial number and the production date on the bottom of the laptop?illenic wrote:@ajkula66 im pretty sure i have a 15' screen (diagonally with a crap measuring tape gave me that...) how do i tell if its and IPS screen? what are the mods that would have to be done? thanks

It says 2623DAU... Is that what you mean? And I know it's 07... Is that it?

That's a regular XGA (1024x768) screen.

Re: Ati x1300 GPU help!
What does XGA mean? Would the t61 board still fit in here? Also I was reading some stuff on the net and was curious if the x1300 in the t60 has "Hypermemory"?? Or any other better boards that are a direct swap into this particular t60..?

Re: Ati x1300 GPU help!
illenic,
There is a link at the top section of the page labelled "MTM". If you click it, you can enter your T60's Machine Type Model (MTM) number, which is 2623DAU in this case.
The result would be this:
IPS screens for the T60 are either SXGA+ (1400x1050) or UXGA (1600x1200).
This means your screen is not IPS.
The T60 15 and 14.1 inch non-widescreen models use the same system board.
In contrast, the T61 has a 14.1 inch non-widescreen, 14.1 widescreen, and 15.4 widescreen models.
Only the system board for the T61 14.1 inch non-widescreen will fit inside the chassis of your 15-inch non-widescreen T60, but it requires a few modifications. You can search for "Frankenpad" in the T60 subforum for more information.
