Erratic Power on of a T40

#1 Post by Thinkpaduser72 » Fri Oct 09, 2015 2:12 pm

I have a T40 2373-72U running WXP I bought on eBay in 2014 which has worked well until recently when it would not power on about half the time. It would power on much more reliably if the power cable was not connected. Also, I have to hold down the power switch at least 5-6 seconds for it to turn off, (maybe related ?). Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Since you have not received any replies, I will take a stab and say it sounds like you either have a faulty adapter, or a bad power connection/internal issue with the motherboard.

Do you see any damage/experience wiggle at the yellow AC jack at the rear of the laptop. It may need to be resoldered to the board.

That being said, my T40 that I now use for college has been entirely trouble free for the 12 years I've owned it.
