Picture for external monitor is beyond desktop
Picture for external monitor is beyond desktop
I connected an external monitor to my t420i (model 4177CTO, S/N r8mp0pp), chose Avalog VGA under Video in bios, and chose the best recommended resolution (1920x1080) in Control Panel. The picture, however, is now beyond the desktop as I see only a small part of the taskbar. The highest resolution that gives me a normal picture for the entire screen is 1366x768. What am I doing wrong?

SInce it's VGA, find the "Auto adjust" setting in the monitor controls (it can be in the menu somewhere, or have an individual button for it), and activate it.
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G

It's Samsung LS27C750.axur-delmeria wrote:What's the brand and model of the monitor that you're using?
When I choose 1920x1080 resolution and use "Auto adjust", it gets even worse. The picture goes beyond the desktop vertically and shrinks by about an inch horizontally.dr_st wrote:SInce it's VGA, find the "Auto adjust" setting in the monitor controls (it can be in the menu somewhere, or have an individual button for it), and activate it.
Re: Picture for external monitor is beyond desktop
Try opening up a maximized Notepad before activating the Auto Adjust.

Why did you make this adjustment in the BIOS before trying to make the adjustment in Windows?
The answer to every problem is not in the BIOS contrary to what everyone reads on the internet.
I recommend you go back to the BIOS and revert to the factory setting and make the adjustment in Windows or the Lenovo monitor helper.

Re: Picture for external monitor is beyond desktop
This sounds like there is some "zoom" setting enabled in the monitor controls. Some monitors have such a feature, but I couldn't find one in the user manual of this model that is applicable to the VGA connection.alosito wrote:When I do this, the pictures goes beyond the desktop both horizontally and vertically.dr_st wrote:Try opening up a maximized Notepad before activating the Auto Adjust.
Still, I would suggest going through the various settings in the monitor controls, seeing if perhaps one of the sharpness, or position settings is off, causing this.
Also, if possible, try a different VGA cable, just in case.
