Thinkpad X60T- Tablet buttons won't work on XP and 7!

#1 Post by Hot coldman » Sun Nov 01, 2015 7:32 am

Hello, i need your help desperately.

Whenever i install win 8.1, everything works fine, pren pressure, screen rotation, tablet buttons...no problem at all.

However, when i install windows XP PC tablet edition, or windows 7, the buttons never work (the ones for rotation and stuff)

I tried to do install the drivers through "Lenovo System Update", or downloading them manually from lenovo's page.

I just don't know anymore. Is there any special procedure to install the tablet button drivers? Do i have to install something else? (I tried to install the hotkeys driver and power management but still...)

Do you guys had the same problem in those O.S?

Thank you very much.

Hi, and Welcome to the Forum!

In addition to the Tablet Button drivers, you also need to install Lenovo Tablet Menu Shortcut drivers, Lenovo Active Rotate drivers AND Lenovo Active Protection System drivers (the drivers that protect the hard drive in case of a fall.) Install the APS drivers FIRST, then the others.

Once these drivers are installed, pressing on the Tablet Menu button on the screen bezel will bring up the on-screen menu... at the bottom of this screen in the lower-left corner is a "Settings" button...clicking it will bring up the "Customize Tablet Shortcut Menu Settings" screen. Click "Enable ActiveRotate" and then click the "Calibrate" button, and follow the screen instructions to calibrate the screen for your system.

IF the "Enable ActiveRotate" button is un-clickable, or "greyed-out", it means the Active Protection System drivers are not installed first....Try again!

Lenovo System Update MAY NOT get all of these drivers for you, and you may have to Google to find them. Make sure you download the correct version for your O/S...e.g. 32-bit, 64-bit, XP, Win 7, etc. All of them are available on the Lenovo website, but they are tricky to locate sometimes... I've long-ago downloaded and renamed/saved all of them to back-up storage and burned them to a CD and USB stick so they are available at a moments' notice. IF you cannot locate them, send me a PM, and I'll see if I can host them somewhere so they can be downloaded.

The Active Protection System drivers (for the hard drive) have to be installed FIRST, since the screen-rotation system uses the auto-sensing capacities that are available once the APS drivers are installed.

I maintain a half-dozen of different X60T/X61T systems under Win XP and Win 7, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. All of them have functioning screen rotation once the proper drivers are installed.

Takes a bit of time to get these machines up and functioning properly, but once you do, they are a joy to use! Microsoft One-Note (included in Office) and the pen/stylus add a whole new layer of functionality to these units, and I've been using a 7764-CTO model myself ( 1.8 Ghz, 8 Gb RAM, Samsung 840 SSD, Win 7 x64) as one of my daily-drivers for three years...wouldn't leave home without it! Good luck with yours!

Regards. Dave

Thank you for your resposne! but i'm afraid that didn't work. The buttons still don't work or do nothing. Here's what i did

1st- i downloaded "ThinkVantage Active Protection System" for windows 7 32-bits. The application is called "g1sa60ww"

I have to download it from somewhere else, it seems the link was down for me from the official page of Lenovo (i think?)

Installed, then reboot.

2nd- i downloaded the "Tablet button driver for windows 7-32 bits". The applicacion is called "7jgk09ww"

Installed and reboot.

3rd- i downloaded "Tablet Shortcut Menu for windows 7-32 bits and xp tablet edition" The application is called "7wg737ww"

Installed and reboot.

But the hardware buttons located on the bezel still won't work. None of them.

Did i do in the correct order?

Also, try installing the Multitouch driver...7wge69ww.exe

Other than that, sounds like you've got what you need.... Try this:

Win 7 Start button>Run> "services.msc" (without the quotes!)

Scroll down the listings, and you should have the following three entries started under the "Name" column:

1. Tablet PC Input Service

2. TABLET Service

3. TabletServiceISD

If these Windows services are not started, right-click on each entry and start the service. The "Startup Type" listing should show automatic as well.

The "Properties" tab of the second service should show C:\Program Files\Thinkpad\Tablet Shortcut\TSMService.exe. The first service (Tablet PC Input Service) refers to a Windows System32 svchost file, and the TabletServiceISD installed path is C:\Program Files\Tablet\ISD\ISD_Tablet.exe

Hope that works for you.

Hello again.

Just as you told me, i checked, and everything was in order. But still no good :( . I tried to reinstall the drivers again, but ended with the same results.

After that, i tried the same procedure and order to install the drivers, but this time with xp tablet pc edition 2005 as OS.

And still won't work, i have no idea what's going on. What could go wrong? :(

Bad LCD-cable?
After all those years (since 2006) it's easy to break just one strand in the cable-bundle...

But that can't be, the buttons work with win 8.1 (tested 2 days ago and then right after installing 7 o Xp they won't work)

Prove it by putting Win 8.1 back in!
If buttons + W8.1 does work, then we have a mystery.
If buttons + W8.1 does NOT work either, then your cable is busted.

Re: Thinkpad X60T- Tablet buttons won't work on XP and 7! [SOLVED]

OK i already fixed it!

The problem were not the drivers itself or the screen, but the OS. It seems that the XP Tablet OS i installed was corrupted or a lite version (i know because it's smaller than the original)

So i downloaded as a last try another one and installed it. It worked perfectly on an instant, no need for order installation or anything, just installed the button drivers and display drivers and everything is ok!

The win 7 installed was probably a bad/lite version too.

Anyways, thank you guys for your advices and patience!
