WTB: one module of 4GB DDR2 PC6400

A lot of our users are in the U.S., but that doesn't mean someone can't help you out.

What's your price range and have you tried looking on e-bay or local versions of craigslist (if there is such a thing in your country, I honestly wouldn't know).

Failing a 4GB stick, you can try a 2GB stick and goto 6GB. I'm just trying to help you out given your geographic location.

The problem here is not that there isn't offers for 4GB modules, but that the offers are too little (the market is not that big as somewhere else and so are the offers) and the prices are too high - or at least I find them too high having in mind the age of systems they are for and the performance of CPUs from that era - I really don't think that it makes sense to pay that much for 2x4GB DDR2 modules and using them with Core 2 Duo, but now I am in a search for QX9300 and want to upgrade to 8GB RAM.

Of course there are good deals, but you have to be really-really quick - I lost an offer for 4x 4GB RAM for something like 150-155 USD - only one was left and I took it. And now 6GB of RAM - sounds like something improper to me!

I have two CPU and I may offer one of them in exchange of one 4GB module:

1 Intel T9900 - same performance as X9100, but "only" 35W TDP
2 Intel P9600 - almost the same as T9600, but only 25W TDP

4 GB DDR2 laptop memory modules are very expensive - they typically sell on ebay for $ 50 US dollars or more, So the memory in a laptop computer with 8 GB of 2x4GB memory may be worth more than the underlying machine itself - LOL And in fact I have a T61 with 8 GB of memory (2x4GB). However I'm not sure if they are the PC2 5300 or 6400 type (I don't think there's much difference form the performance point of view). I will have a look and see if the BIOS tells me what they are ... I'm happy to sell you a 4 GB module - the T61 itself needs so repairs, and I'm sure the machine itself is worth < $ 100.

I can understand someone wanting a maxed out T61 system if it's their primary or one of it's kind machine. My opinion when considering the age of the T61 and dollar cost averaging components. Middleton is a must. 4GB of ram 2 X 2GB of ram (cost factor) and a SSD 120GB drive instead of a 4GB memory module. I do not see the benefit of having 8GB of memory on any laptop over 4GB of ram. I have 8GB of ram on my DD3 machines but I can't see a difference in performance. The biggest difference is the HDD. Adding an SSD makes the biggest difference in my opinion.

I have not figured out why DD2 4GB memory modules are priced as they are in the memory market.

I do not see the benefit of going above a T9300 CPU unless you want the absolute fastest processor. Considering the age of the Core2Duo processors. I do not think the extra mhz is something that can be easily felt considering the speedstep technology (power saving) which reduces the CPU speed by half.

With that said, I upgrade my CPU's to either the T8300 or T9300 if I get a T61 with 2.0ghz or less.

For $20 US you can get a 4GB 2 X 2GB memory kit and use the extra savings for an SSD drive.

I encountered the same frustration getting my hands on 8GB DDR2 memory. Prices were $120-$140 around the time so I was *excited* someone accepted my offer of $100.

Hans Gruber, my current setting are T9500 CPU, 2x2GB DDR2 PC5300 and 240GB SSD and have no page file because of the SSD. The difference in prices of T9500 and T9300 is few dollars, but the difference in prices of 2x4GB RAM and 2x2GB RAM is at least x3(really rare offers) usually x4 or x5.

Sometimes I can full up the memory, but before that I can see that the CPU can't handle the load and that's why I think that it's pointless of buying 2x4GB DDR2 considering their usual prices. But since I want to use it as a primary machine I want to upgrade it with QX9300 (even my ex X200i was more powerfull that the current settings) that's why I decided that I will go for 2x4GB RAM - I think that QX9300 will appreciate it . Beside this it's not just a need for more power, it's frankenpadding - a passion for constantly upgrading the system (or some sort of obsession )!

twillis449, thak you but as far as I know I need PC6400 for the 1066MHz FSB mod, so I don't need them!

Nevertheless, I still haven't bought QX9300, so I am not in a hurry
