T410 IPS

#1 Post by Temetka » Sat Nov 07, 2015 6:50 pm

I know, I know. Supposedly T410's don't have any IPS screens available.

This one claims to be IPS. What do you guys think?

The G141C1-L01 datasheet http://www.azdisplays.com/PDF/G141C1-L01.pdf says that it's an MVA LCD panel.

So it's not IPS, but it's still a wide-viewing angle LCD.

The question is whether the T410 has an LCD EDID whitelist like the T60/61 series, and if the pinout is compatible with the T410's stock panels.

I'd be far more concerned about the pinout...EDID is fairly easy to get around

This was discussed on the German forums a few years ago. EDID doesn't exist on pure Lenovo machines as far as I know. The PIN layout is different, so you need to mod the cable. The display is also glossy, which I welcome, but can put off some users.

The biggest problem is sourcing the panel. The Aliexpress offer is the only listing I have seen in years and following my negative experiences I do not trust sellers there. You also used to be able to buy a modded cable for the T400 on a different website. (now closed down) So maybe this mod was quite widespread in China but it just never really became that popular like some other mods you keep reading about.

I wouldnt think people would bother. There's piles of ex lease T410 1,400 x 900 laptops out there for under $100 usd.

It probably costs $150 to replace the screen.
