T420s...Sound problems

#1 Post by PandorasThinkpad » Mon Nov 09, 2015 7:30 pm

Hi there!

I own an T420s in maximum outfit ;-)...Core i7-2640M and Nvidia Quadro NVS 4200M (Optimus)

which has now even an FHD panel....

and i have anoying sound problems with that machine...

My OS is Windows 7 Professional, my Internet Security is GData....my main drive is a Crucial MX100 with 256GB and new firmware...i have two bars of 8GB Crucial Ram...

The thing is...everytime when i am playing music there is from time to time an crack in the sound...and this is making me kind of weird...

I have read many threads in the german forum....for some it is a latency problem, for others it is an driver problem, nvidia or ethernet....wlan….

I have downgraded the ethernet driver, i have taken the the driver for the soundcard from the conexant website,...i have chosen the chipset drivers from the intel site...because the actual lenovo drivers haven't brought an solution to my problem, but nothing...

The sound is cracking....mostly internet stream but also when i listen to music on the drive...or an usb drive...

Checked the T420s out with an Linux on an HDD...no problems at all.....

So does anyone can help in this?

ThankS!!

Kind regards,

PAnDoRa

That is a very nice T420s setup you have. Good SSD drive, nice processor and plenty of ram. My keep it simple stupid approach is to do a clean install of Windows 7. I think that will solve your problem.

Have you tried DPC Latency Checker http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml or a similar tool?
Maybe it can help you identify the cause of the issue.
Daily driver: X220 4291-P79 i5-2520M

In reserve: X61 T7500, X60 T2300
In pieces: X60s CS U1300 [board only], two retired but working X61Ts

I have often run LatencyMon rather than dpc latency checker, as it seems to give more clues.

Thanks all!

But i have sold the machine...and now i'm looking for a huge workstation such as W520....with Nvidia 2000m and FHD...

This problems with the sound were too much trial an error for me...have no time at all to do much more trial an error...

Kindly,
