what is the SM bus driver?

I just freshly formatted with a 7k60 and i'm trying to re-install all of my drivers, but i see a SM bus controllre, what exactly is this?

do i need it?
also, how do i get the ibm software that lets me see my fn key on the screen? like if i lower the volume, i get the volume overlay?? and same with screen brightness?

I don't know what the SM Bus Driver is, sorry, but regarding the volume and brightness indicators in the screen you need to install On Screen Display.

For the smbus, try installing the intel chipset driver.

The SM bus has to do with the security chip, did you enable it or try to install the IBM client security software ?
