Hi,
Now, we can find on the market 1.8 IDE cases to insert an mSATA SSD inside the X40:

But one year ago, they were not available, so that I purchased a simple adapter without enclosure:

The fact is that it is difficult to insert in the Thinkpad X40, as you don't see if the pins are in front of the right holes. So I have to disassemble a little bit the ThinkPad X40.
I removed all screws from the back, but near the entrance of the hard drive, on the right, the case remains impossible to open. From the front, I can see two rectangular holes, about 12mm x 4mm with some metallic part in them.
I'm probably missing something, but what?
Thanks a lot.

The best suggestion that I can give you is to get a copy of the Hardware Maintenance Manual. I am assuming from your post that you have not done so already. It contains instructions on how to take the system apart. Up at the top of each page here in this forum, you will find a link named HMM. Click it and look through the index for the X40 and then click the PDF icon in the right column to download a copy.

Best advice there. You can learn a lot from the manual. It's pretty self explanatory and easy to follow.rkawakami wrote:The best suggestion that I can give you is to get a copy of the Hardware Maintenance Manual. Plus you can make sure you remember where everything goes when you are putting it back together.
