W520 scrolling jerks
Hi!
Have a little or moderate problem with my W520...I7 Quad...16GB Ram....
OS is Win7 64 Bit, SSD is Intel 530 with 180GB and actual firmware....drivers are from lenovo site....the ones most actual for this os....
The problems occur in Firefox.....every time when i am scrolling (pressed middle button and pulled track point)....and this is especially anoying on ebay....the scroll of the site jerks....
So what might this be, any suggestions about?
Should i try out the "UltraNav-Dienstprogramm für Windows 7 (32 Bit, 64 Bit), Vista (32 Bit, 64 Bit), XP (32 Bit, 64 Bit) – ThinkPad" instead of the "Synaptics UltraNav-Treiber für Windows 8.1 (32 Bit, 64 Bit), 8 (32 Bit, 64 Bit), 7 (32 Bit, 64 Bit), Vista (32 Bit, 64 Bit), XP – ThinkPad"?
Does anyone have had this, too.....and can give an note how to solve this problem?
Want not to do very much trial and error...so if there might be one.....please answer me...
Thanks!!
Sincerly,
PanDoRA

Try PaleMoon instead of Firefox.
PM doesn't have that dreadful Australis junk in it.
I have been using PM on all my PCs and laptops, most recently on a W510, not a problem.

Re: W520 scrolling jerks
Does this problem happen only in firefox ? try it in IE or chrome and see if the same thing happens ?
Also monitor CPU usage to see whether there is a spike during scrolling.
Firefox uses only one cpu thread, which make it act a bit slow when many tabs are opened. .. in your case, if Firefox is using 12% cpu usage, then it is using a full cpu core.
A quick work around ..
In the firefox options, in advanced tab, under general > browsing.
change the settings of: smooth scrolling , hardware acceleration.
and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your answer!
I will collect any hints and when i am at my W520 again i will try.,..
But first of all i think of changing driver of the ultranav...or shall i do this at a last step?
Ah, only hardware acceleration i haven't disabled until now, everything else i did, this changed nothing...
Kind regards,
PanDoRA

Re: W520 scrolling jerks
Based on what you are saying, that this issue happens in firefox and in specific websites, it doesn't look like a driver issue.PandorasThinkpad wrote: But first of all i think of changing driver of the ultranav...or shall i do this at a last step?
First, try to verify that it only happens in firefox or not.

Re: W520 scrolling jerks
firefox already updated to 43 today, try that. It is now 64bit version and improved. Keep in mind make sure check that your flash and others are disabled and if not could make things jerky. Ditto look into windows utilization resources.

Re: W520 scrolling jerks
Have you tried the smooth scrolling option in firefox. I know a few years back google provided a registry hack to help improve this. I think ebay has a lot of weird scripts and flash so I'd run NoScript add on for firefox and all my pages load more efficiently. Though you do have to play around with it so it will display the content you want. But it's the best for disabling scripts and annoying ads.

Re: W520 scrolling jerks
Hi again!
First i've changed the driver...but...7vgq14ww.exe did not gave any ultranav features....so i took 6hgx81ww.exe again....
Then i deactivated hardware acceleration and this has solved the problem so far...only a little bit still jerks the scroll on ebay....
and it's the same thing with opera...
I even searched for an older version of the ethernet driver...but there is no one to find at the lenovo support site...but i don't really think that this is the cause for this scrolling prob...
@jedisurfer1: Just wrote that i have tried everthing under this options in firefox..only the hardware acceleration i haven't had deactivated...
No...no....it isn't quite better....and this machine...there shouldn't be any jerks in scrolling.....
the next step will be.....take the Quadro2000m Driver from nvidia.com...
Quadro Desktop/Quadro Notebook Driver Release 352
Version: 354.56 WHQL
Freigabedatum: 2015.12.9
Betriebssystem: Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8.1 64-bit, Windows 8 64-bit
Sprache: Deutsch
..and checkt it out...if this will bring full smooth scrolling in Firefox and other Browsers...
Kindly,

Re: W520 scrolling jerks
Hi, an update....
Have deinstalled Ultranav...Nvidia driver, Intel HD Graphics Driver and have used the drivers microsoft update has offered (Nvidia, Intel HD Graphics, Ultranav)....after this i manually updated also the Nvidia again (358.91)....
this made it better....but solved the problem also not completely...some one in the german forum told me that this is because the drivers of the trackpoint use CPU and the Display the GPU....and this is just the problem of the windows 7 drivers in common....PS/2 and so on...
But why don't have much more people this problems, is it that the only use touchpad....or no one of them uses Win7 anymore....so the problem won't occur on Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 i guess....?
Any comments?
Merry Christmas to all here and in the USA!!
Kind regards,
PanDoRA

Re: W520 scrolling jerks
Well, for me scrolling with touchpad never works that well, so I wouldn't know.
With Firefox and scrolling on the W520; yes, when on a low-power profile and something like Youtube is running in the background, scrolling is nasty. Also; flash is bad, but luckily that is used less and less.
If it really annoys me, I set it to maximum performance powerplan, but sometimes that leads to the trip taking longer than the battery lasts
