#1 Post by Scorpiontico » Mon Jun 06, 2005 2:39 pm

hi, could somebody please please write or post a link about how to dissamble a t43 (take apart) in order to apply thermal compound such as arctic silver 5 to the cpu and maybe gpu.

thanks so much, im very interested in performing this to lower some temapature degrees (i bet alot of people are too).

Regards.

ps:i know this guide (if created) will save a lot of us time and work as well posting space, :D .

The IBM Hardware Maintenance Manual usually shows how to disassemble the machine. Below is the link for the T-43.

I was planning on applying AS5 but now that I got load temp below 60 degrees by changing the voltage I decided against it. Tell me how it goes though ^^ I'm scared that I might actually end up raising the temps of the CPU (thermal pads actually do better than AS5 sometimes, go figure).

wow and what are those now (thermal pads)? do t43s have them?

arctic claims as5 is the best thermal solution avalaible (as a paste).

You would have the same claim if trying to sell a product ;)

While I generally tend to agree that AS5 is the best stuff around, its not on the premise that the manufacture told me so. :lol:

Ya arctic silver works really well on desktops but sometimes the thermal pads the manufacturer puts on works better. Beats me.I know someone who's temps went up after applying AS5 on his laptop (he has used AS5 a lot, so I trust he knows how much to apply). I got my idle temps for my t43 under 40 deg C idle just by playing with the voltages. My load temp dropped 13 deg just be finding the lowest stable CPU voltage (which is 1.116v for the 15x multi for me). If you do try it tho, tell me how it turns out. I might try it if you get good results. ^^;

It's pretty easy to mess up applying AS5 and get bad temps. Even if that guy has done it 100 times he could have still done it wrong on the laptop leading to higher temps.

It would be worth hearing about success stories with AS5 and the T43s to see if it's a big difference and worth the trouble.

I would think that Thermal Compound was applied during manufacture. That said, I remove the CPU in my T41, cleaned off the compound, put on new compound and installed a new CPU. No significant change in operating temperature. ... JD Hurst
