Window Maker Live: wmlive 0.95.7-0-beta test version
Window Maker Live: wmlive 0.95.7-0-beta test version
Happy New Year!
For a good start of the new year, a first beta test version of the next 'Window Maker Live' release 0.95.7 based on Debian/Jessie has finally been uploaded to:
sourceforge.net/projects/wmlive/files/wmlive_0.95.7-0-beta
See the above mentioned URL for a (still incomplete) list of changes since last release. In my not so humble opinion, this beta is already much better than all former releases together. Of course, by default it includes some Thinkpad specific features like the ultrabay-scripts and tlp for 'Linux Advanced Power Management', which should both run out of the box.
This is not yet the final release version and has therefore not been publically announced anywhere. It was mainly made available for interested parties to crutinize it for any errors and oversights on my behalf.
Being only human with a limited perspective, i obviously need feedback by third party testers. Hopefully enough people point out my oversights and provide necessary pointers to enable corrections and enhancements to be applied before actually releasing the final wmlive version.
Furthermore, most wmlive specific components have been moved into separate Debian packages which have been made available as an APT repository here:
wmlive.rumbero.org/repo
There is also a github repository for wmlive which will slowly be populated with the wmlive code:
github.com/wmlive
As you can see, i have been rather busy during the last months.
Please test and provide feedback, so the final release becomes as bug free as possible.
Thanks a lot in advance for your time!

Re: Window Maker Live: wmlive 0.95.7-0-beta test version
Release of the final wmlive version 0.95.7-1 has now been scheduled for Monday, 18th of January.
This weekend therefore offers the last chance to provide me with your findings about this wmlive test release and contribute to hopefully prevent the release from containing any still avoidable errors.
I am especially interested in feedback regarding you user experience in the already installed system:
- Are there any programs missing?
- Are there any superfluous programs?
- Would LibreOffice be preferable over Abiword/Gnumeric?
- Does the Lighning addon work as expected in Thunderbird?
- Any other issues found during daily use?
Up until now i have received only one single feedback (thanks Jonathan!) although by now this test release has been downloaded almost 500 times already.
Thanks a lot in advance!

Re: Window Maker Live: wmlive 0.95.7-0-beta test version
I have your original version in a VM. Seems to work OK. I need to read up on how WindowMaker actually works. I was just kinf clicking on stuff.
That being said I posted your thread in the BunsenLabs Linux "Distro Hoppers Anonymous" thread.
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic ... 898#p15898
Maybe some of the guys over there will check it out.

Re: Window Maker Live: wmlive 0.95.7-0-beta test version
@Temetka: Thanks for spreading the word, much appreciated! I've had Bunsenlabs installed too out of curiosity and found it to be excellent.
@RBS: Thanks for the heads up!
I was already aware of CVE-2016-0728, and that's one of the reasons (besides abysmal upload speeds to sourceforge) why release didn't yet take place as planned. Will build fresh ISO images for release once suitable kernel packages have been made available from Debian side.

Re: Window Maker Live: wmlive 0.95.7-0-beta test version
The final version was successfully uploaded and is now available to interested parties:
sourceforge.net/projects/wmlive/files/wmlive_0.95.7-1
A separate release announcement will follow this weekend.
Just to make clear why wmlive is relevant in the Thinkpad context: Not only it includes by default linrunner's fantastic tlp - Linux Advanced Power Management and the ultrabay-scripts packages, but both should work out of the box on most Thinkpads.
This makes wmlive a rather Thinkpad centric Debian Linux variation.
