Cloning Hard drive to external hard drive

Hello,

Given the current situation I am facing, I am considering a clean install of windows. However, I do not wish to lose any important files I have on the HDD. I am able to use this usb thing to connect the HDD to another laptop and explore/copy/paste. I also have an external drive.

Would it be possible to ensure that I have copied every single thing from that HDD to the external drive? I will have to use a friend's computer to connect both the drives to that PC and transfer between them.
