Help with repairing a broken T23...........

#1 Post by kidpaprika » Mon Jun 21, 2004 2:55 am

Hi,

I recently dropped my T23 about half a metre onto a hard floor. The top left hand corner hit the floor. The case became damaged (the top half, i.e. upper screen case, and also the lower half of the case is slightly cracked).

I'd like to get this repaired. I'm in the UK (Newcastle upon Tyne) and I'm not sure how to go about doing this.......

I found a T20 case on eBay. Will the plastics from the T20 fit my T23? And how easy is it to transplant the innards from one Thinkpad to another? I once tried to do a similar thing with an old Advent laptop, and it proved extremely difficult and cumbersome (and I ended up destroying it in the process).

Perhaps it would be better to take it to a repair shop. Does anyone have any idea where I could take it and how much it would cost?

Thanks

1. Search for the IBM Hardware Maintenance Manual for the T23 model.
2. Look for the FRU part numbers of the broken parts.
3. Go to the IBM site enter the FRU numbers to see their price.

The prices of IBM's spare part are surprisingly reasonable.

I don't have the URLs at hand right now.
