How to make it faster? Is there a driver out there to make it faster?

As for mSATA - it is limited to SATA II (3.0 Gbps) on the T420, T520 and W520. If you require the sequential speeds offered by the faster SATA III bus from your SSD, you'll need to use the UltraBay or 2.5" HDD bay.

Re: w520 mSATA speed
You can't get much more than that on a SATA II interface. I believe the cap is 300 MB/sec sequential. Quote from SanDisk knowledgbase:
"Example: SanDisk Extreme SSD, which supports SATA 6Gb/s interface and when connected to SATA 6Gb/s port, can reach up to 550/520MB/s sequential read and sequential write speed rates respectively. However, when the drive is connected to SATA 3 Gb/s port, it can reach up to 285/275MB/s sequential read and sequential write speed rates respectively."

Re: w520 mSATA speed
That is about what I get on mine. I have a 256gb mSata and a 512gb SSD as the main drive. The 512gb drive doesn't quite double the speed, it is more like 35-40% faster. In actually working with both of them, I hardly notice the difference.
Currently using: A W500, a W520, an X201T, an X220T, an X61T, a 14" T60P,a 15" UXGA T60P and a W700.
Currently idle: A spare W500, a spare X61T, a spare W700, a 14" T61, a 15" SXGA+ T60, a 14" T60, and my first Thinkpad, a 770X.

Re: w520 mSATA speed
Your read speeds are appropriate for SATA II interface, and your (lowly) write speeds are typical for SandForce-based drives.u666sa wrote: How to make it faster? Is there a driver out there to make it faster?
Not much to do here, apart from replacing the SSD.

Re: w520 mSATA speed
Huh...guess I should have done my research. I just purchased a 256GB Samsung 850 EVO mSATA drive with the intention of using it as the main system drive in a newly acquired W520. Likely that I wouldn't notice the performance limitation of SATA II but still rubs me wrong to go forward with the mSATA as I rebuild the W520 to be my ultimate daily driver workstation...

Re: w520 mSATA speed
Who cares. In typical workloads, you will save more time with the W520's keyboard vs the W530 than you will loose on the mSata only being SATA-300
