Coffee damage T61p

#1 Post by eru3 » Sun Jan 24, 2016 6:52 am

Hi!

So I have managed to spill coffee on T61P. Fuse was replaced, laptop powered once again.

There is only one thing bothering me right now - RAM slot B does not work. I am getting 1-3-3-1 beep, while trying to use 8GB of RAM. Therefore I am stuck with 4GB of RAM, which is not a very clean solution for me. Anyone, any idea?

Try this (at your own risk)
Unplug it and remove the main battery.
Take a 'spare' memory module, dip the contacts edge in isopropyl (90% preferred) and work it in and out of the slots.
Try to get a little bit more isopropyl into the slot with a pin or toothpick. Do Not scrap it, just get the liquid in there.
Blow it out with some canned air.
Make sure its dry.
Plug it back in and test with known good modules.

Hey, at least it's not what happened to me when I accidentally dumped a Full 24oz vanilla & hazelnut coffee (with cream & sugar) onto the back seat, of my wife's CTS

We've been able to restore dead motherboardss and even consumer devices with this:

It has truly worked miracles.

P.S. I didn't realize T-61s could take 8 GB RAM!
And here I had thought I was maxed out at 4.

They can make use of 8 GB of RAM if you have a 64 bit operating system. If not, no go.
