T41p USB 2.0 Problems

#1 Post by oslike » Tue Jun 07, 2005 11:31 am

Hi all,

nice to see the new forum.

I am using my T41p for 1.5 years now. Suddenly windows telling me
my USB2 Memory stick and USB2 external harddrive is connected
to a slower (1.1) hub. The transfers are very slot. Writing to
USB sometimes ends up in 0kb/sec. I tried to test USB speeds
with Knoppix, it seems to have USB1.1 speeds too ...

did any1 experience this problem ?

ive heard this before. since the USB ports are connected to the motherboard, i think the only solution is to change the motherboard. you machine should have come with a 3 year warranty, so you should be fine. just call IBM

Check this first -

go into Device Manager and see if you have a USB hub marked with a yellow question mark. If so, do a driver update on the device. On my r50p it installed an intel USB driver and then recognized the device correctly.

Once I did this my USB memory key stopped getting that "for better performance use a USB 2.0 blah.blah." warning when I inserted it and the speed increased by at least 3 or 4x.
