R60 - Password not known - Am I out of luck?

#1 Post by jonsm » Mon Feb 08, 2016 12:10 pm

Hello, I've inherited an old IBM ThinkPad R60. Ideally, we'd like to get the data off of it and back it up. However, no one recalls the password anymore. I noticed from this forum that people talk about a "Password Reset Service" in the BIOS but I checked and it is Disabled. Looking online it sounds like this computer has file and folder encryption. So, am I out of luck in having options for getting the data off of this computer or is there a solution? Thanks in Advance, Jon.

Take the hard disk out, stick it in a USB case and connect it to any other PC or laptop.
Unless the HD also has a password (or is indeed encrypted), you should be able to get data of that HD.
