X62 has a compatible model for X61s named X62s.
hopejyb has designed an individual heatsink for X62s. It is OK to upgrade X61s to X62s

X62 is fantastic projekt.

Can you say something about the battery life, in comparison to the original mainboard?

This is so great. Will only the motherboard+cpu+heatsink/fan be sold? Or will there also be pre-modded shells with, say, SXGA+ displays available? I'm pricing out parts, and those 12.1" displays alone are over $100. The supply of used X60/X61 laptops also seems to be a little dry.

X61(T9300): about 2h,20m

What kind of timetable are we looking at for general availability? Even with my newest upgrades my X61 isnt really keeping up. I was going to buy a surface style tablet, but if thise board can give my X61 a new life, and in the process wipe the floor with thetablet i was looking at, even better.

the X62's news

#15 Post by chenq » Wed Feb 17, 2016 6:39 am

Hello!
I'm using a X62 notebook to post this topic now. What is the X62? The X62 is a project whitch is use the Thinkpad X60/X61 (also can be X60S/X61S),to change the motherboard and the fan system. It use the 5th intel BroadWell i7-5600u and DDR3L 1600 DIMMS so the X62 is more faster and power saver.
If you want to get a X62 motherboard ,you need to visit http://forum.51nb.com/ and contact the HOPE(who is the project's leader).
I cann't find the picture upload fuction,so if you want to know more about the X62,you can visit tie web site http://forum.51nb.com. Thank you !

That my friend is easier said than done. As almost none of us read chinese and google translate more or less breaks the 51nb website which makes registering almost impossible.

That same HOPE is now also registered on our forum as: hopejyb.
He posted the pictures at the beginning of this thread.

I advise you to also read: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=117955 where he also posted.

I cannt find the function of file upload here, so it's maybe the same difficulty of sharing info here. what a pity.

The forum only offers limited options to post pictures here.
The accepted solution is, to put those pictures on Imgur, TinyPic and the likes, and then post the links to them here.
There are still plenty of forum members who visit the forum using their cell phones with expensive accounts.
Unfortunately the USA is way, WAY behind in supplying cheap, fast internet access.
IMHO here everything is too slow, too expensive and has too many bad weather influences, not to mention M$ Windows and .GOV interference...

My X62 is NO.18
1.I have revised the boot logo to sxga, like the first picture you have see.
2.The X62 have get rid of VGA socket to be miniDP and mini HDMI.
3.The X62 have a stereo output interface so I have put an apple ipad mini's speaker .and they works well.
4.The finger reader is work well and you can install lenovo thinkpad finger software and don't need any changes.
5.The X62's motherboard have a SLIC2.1 so you can use Lenovo OEM windows 7 and it will auto active.

I like X62 logo.
May be it is not so oldschool like classic ThinkPad, but very stylish and not so shine like RetroThinkpad logo.
Anyway (i think) it can be customized by endThinkPadder without any problems with embedded layers (like lenovo logo on T6x+ boot screen)

Cardreader is in place. All connectors are in place. I have only one question - can it accept 3G/4G modem instead of mSATA SSD?
I don't see SIMreader but i think i could place it after PCMCIA door.

I think the msata cann't use 3G/4G WWAN,but you can use USB TO 3G/4G such as HUAWEI EC5377U-872 or ZTE,the motherboard have build-in a USB socket you can use .

Yeah, well, the reason i need it internally because i've already broken off three USB modems and damaged two usb ports. And i'd like to avoid having to solder another USB device into my ultrabase. It was not fun...

If the second slot/msata slot is electrically compatible, you can always add a sim slot on your own with an adapter. Whether or not the motherboard has a sim slot soldered onto it is irrelevant.

There seems to be a USB 2.0 port on the bottom side of the mainboard, near the fan socket.
Adapter like this one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Mini-PCI-E-an-US ... 1c38cc938b
should fit in the gap between the two boards to make WWAN possible.

But more internal USB or PCI Express ports would have been nice.
