T420 wont shutdown windows 10 64 bit
Good evening, i require the help of the users of this forum (Youre the best when it comes to thinkpads), my t420, with windows 10 64 bit i7 2640m with the nvs4200 wont shut down at all on windows 10, when i press the shutdown it appears as if it is shutting down, but it returns to the login screen automatically, i also have opensuse leap installed, in the same ssd (dual booting), and on opensuse, it shut downs fine.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Are you pressing the power button or are you selecting shut down from the start menu?
What if you try shut down from the task manager?

Re: T420 wont shutdown windows 10 64 bit
There's some problem with compatibility with GRUB2, i had the same issue under Win10 after installing Debian on my T420. But I had to format it anyway, so never found solution.

Pressing shutdown from the start menu, no idea what to do under windows.
Re: T420 wont shutdown windows 10 64 bit
I don't have a full fix for this yet, I'm not familiar with GRUB2, so hopefully someone else can help.
But it looks like hibernating causes this issue. It seems to happen in Win 7 and 8, as well as 10. Since Win 8, the default shutdown is really just a hibernate.
A few people said that disabling fast startup will work.

I gave a link since it already has pictures in it, and all the steps.
You can try the other changes on this page as well to see if they help.
I do remember reading somewhere that if you don't completely fix the problem, you just lose the hibernate feature.
If you want to give something a try first, one person said that he could restart windows and that gave him the GRUB boot loader, and he then could select his version of linux and do a normal shut down.
This should work since restart will do a normal shut down first, and then just turn back on.
