T460s SSD question

#1 Post by shaibu » Thu Mar 03, 2016 7:28 pm

Just received a T460s and specifically requested the SATA3 as I wanted to upgrade to a 2TB Samsung MZ-7KE2T0BW. When i opened the computer the SSD in the drive is a m.2 format.... so it would not fit. Did Lenovo send me the wrong motherboard? is the T460s able to accept the Samsung MZ-7KE2T0BW? Any help would be appreciated. thanks!

I believe Lenovo removed the 2.5" SATA III bay in favor of a PCIe slot in an effort to get ever more thin.

According to the configurator, it's 500GB, but I don't know if you can do dual drives with a PCIe and SATA SSDs. That would get you closer to 2TB, but I haven't been following it closely. The T460 gets you a traditional drive bay, but it's obviously a little late for that now.

There are 1 TB M.2 SSDs, and there are more coming out soon. These are two examples (SATA III speed):

I don´t know where you can purchase them in Canada though.

Well, it should. I just upgraded my P50 with a PM951 NVMe SSD, works like a charm.
