Lenovo have now screwed up the Parts Lookup

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Sat Mar 12, 2016 8:25 am

Why am I not surprised that Lenovo has ballsed up again!
The bungling incompetent Lenovo website programmers have yet again destroyed another perfectly good working web-function!
This time it's the PARTS LOOKUP.

Used to be working great at: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... ookup.page
Now they have new NON-working this: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookup

Small change, HUGE impact, since nothing much works.
E.g.: if you wanted to check if a specific X220 model came out with IPS, Parts Lookup used to tell you. NOT ANY MORE!

Lenovo, take the finger out and stop ruining it for us!

I just tried both links for a T420s (4173L8U) and it seems to be working...

The parts lookup page seems to be producing some non-standard HTML,
that could be part of your problem. I haven't dug into it with a debugger,
but switching to another browser might make the site more intelligible.

The version of Chrome that I'm using "Version 49.0.2623.87 (64-bit)"
on Linux seems to display most of the page correctly, but some fields
are being displayed as raw HTML, so whoever wrote the page
should go back and fix this.

How does one report a problem with the page to Lenovo?

Both links do not work for me, machine type: 4287-59G. It returns "No results found, please check and try again."

Try without the dash in the middle of the machine type, I'm seeing similar results.

It seems some of the X220 are working, most X220 are not, most of older machine-info is pot-luck or gone.
Problem is, I'm not interested in anything from T430/T530/W530/X230 onward.
Trust Lenovo to screw good things up!

Hasn't somebody downloaded this site at some point in the past to a spreadsheet format?
I wish I could recall, but memory fades.

They downloaded the MTM, which is now accessible via the MTM-link at the top of this page.
Partslookup was never downloaded AFAIK.

I do not think it was possible to scrape parts lookup because it required serial number, and in some cases, a serial number require mtm to perform the search (possibly because a serial number could exist with more than 1 MTM)

a serial number has 7 alphanumeric characters, so possible serial numbers = 36^7 = 78,364,164,096

add to that the possiblity of multiple MTMs per serial number.

well, .. if anyone knows of a way to scrape the data NOW please post it :|

Both warranty and parts lookup are not working for T61 type 64584uu. Machine with NVIDIA Quadra NVS 140M with 08/08 sticker date and like to confirm the production date.

doesn't looks like it'd be very easy with curl.

But there is now a 'Parts Batch Query' link on the page. I haven't tried it.
