Very surprised how long the machine lasted. Apparently he/she used the same X220! There is another comparison with the X240 and X220:

The high water resistence seems to stem largely from the design of the palmrest and keyboard bezel. They both have plastic keyboard supports that extend outward and which the keyboard sits on top of. The keyboard bezel especially surrounds most of the bottom of the keyboard. Both act like a sort of semi seal or 'drip pan', which then routes to the water holes in the chassis.
