AUO B156HW01 v.4 (FHD screen) so brightness/strong colors problem
AUO B156HW01 v.4 (FHD screen) so brightness/strong colors problem
Hi,
I've bought a genuine AUO B156HW01 v.4 (matte FHD screen) and also a cable to use it on my l502x laptop (that one from ebay).
After install it all works great but the results are not so good as many people said. The colors are so strong/brightness. For example that blue (from skype) https://community.skype.com/skypec/...d ... 18/1/skype probelm.jpg is so strong compared with the one produced on my dell u2311h or u2415 (but the color is similar). The same happens for the that windows 8.1 orange color which is like a torch for my eyes on that screen: https://www.itechtics.com/wp-content/up ... 0x1800.png
I'm a little disappointed since everyone says that AUO B156HW01 v.4 is perfect. And now I prefer my HD glossy one. The strong colors produced by the AUO B156HW01 v.4 are not comfortable for my eyes after some hours.
I've modified the color managment profiles and also tried some profiles over the internet. They modify the colors and gamma but the colors are still strong. If I decress or incress the brightness it's not a solution since is like to regulate only the backlight (which is not the problem).
Does anyone have the same problem or understand me?
Thanks

Re: AUO B156HW01 v.4 (FHD screen) so brightness/strong colors problem
a "quick fix" solution i found, was to lower saturation by -31, (default was 0).
and also, adjust those to your liking: slight decrease to contrast, and slight increase to brightness.

Looks like you need to calibrate the display to tame the colors. You'd need a colorimeter like the X-Rite ColorMunki, Datacolor Spyder, or Hughski Colorhug.

How can I low saturation? I'm using windows 8.1. Also there is no option to decrease contrast on my laptophhhd1 wrote:a "quick fix" solution i found, was to lower saturation by -31, (default was 0).

One extra question. If I use a distinct color profile it will affect all my external monitors connected to that laptop? (where the color is good right now)
Re: AUO B156HW01 v.4 (FHD screen) so brightness/strong colors problem
These displays must be calibrated to tame the oversaturation in colors. I used the icm profile qwerty42 made and it works great: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P ... d-p/710499
There are also other profiles online as well, but trust me, once you get everything calibrated, you won't ever want to touch your old HD screen.

I am fairly sure those settings can be changed on connected screen independently, betitae wrote:How can I low saturation? I'm using windows 8.1. Also there is no option to decrease contrast on my laptophhhd1 wrote:a "quick fix" solution i found, was to lower saturation by -31, (default was 0).

in win8.1, right click on desktop, select "graphics properties"
in there, make sure you use advanced view, then select: display > color enhancement

I only see that window on color enchancement (no saturation scrollbar :S) If i click calibrate display it only calibrates gamma (brightness and contrast, well contrast is not configurable in my laptop since I dont have buttons) and color balance.hhhd1 wrote:I am fairly sure those settings can be changed on connected screen independently, betitae wrote:

Ok, great. Well the problem that I've seen after moving saturation , contrast and all options is that the screen has a backlight which is to yellow compared with my glossy HD. why?hhhd1 wrote:right click on desktop, and select "Graphics Properties"

Re: AUO B156HW01 v.4 (FHD screen) so brightness/strong colors problem
that is normal, every lcd is different, some LCDs are more blue or purple,
what could help you is a color calibrator to make the screens look closer to each other:

Re: AUO B156HW01 v.4 (FHD screen) so brightness/strong colors problem
Non-IPS, uncalibrated thinkpad displays often come with more of a bluish instead of neutral tone. You are probably naturally used to the tint the old display had, and now the calibrated FHD display seems overly yellow, but really isn't.
As a side note, I am not sure about the HD or HD+ screens, but the FHD screen in my W530 has 100 brightness increments (0 through 100) under arch linux. A simple in a root terminal sets the screen brightness to 56%. This is the only laptop display I have ever seen to have so many brightness levels.

Re: AUO B156HW01 v.4 (FHD screen) so brightness/strong colors problem
Well, but for example if I look the screen far from it and looking it by side I can see that the backlight is like a yellow color and my HD glossy is more like a blue. This cannot be calibrated is related to the backlight, right?hhhd1 wrote:that is normal, every lcd is different, some LCDs are more blue or purple,

Of course it can be, that's the whole point of calibration!betitae wrote:This cannot be calibrated is related to the backlight, right?
I also highly recommend that you read up on color gamut and color spaces. Then you will understand why your display has such strong colors.
Essentially, what you need to do is buy a colorimeter and set it to calibrate your display to sRGB, which is the standard that web pages expect. Full AdobeRGB is something you will want to use when editing photos and videos.

Re: AUO B156HW01 v.4 (FHD screen) so brightness/strong colors problem
But I've tried also 8 distinct profiles for that monitor which where recommended from some users in distinct forums/messages and all of them are quite distinct but all of them has the same yellow backlight which is so noticeable when you look your laptop with your head at 40 degress to the right or left you can see that the screen its like a yellow light instead of a more blank/blue light like the glossy HD. Perhaps the glossy is a distinct technology since it's glossy and not matte.600X wrote:Of course it can be, that's the whole point of calibration!betitae wrote:This cannot be calibrated is related to the backlight, right?

Re: AUO B156HW01 v.4 (FHD screen) so brightness/strong colors problem
The only profile that fits your monitor is the one you create yourself.
The reason why there is a yellow tint when you look at the display at an angle is because it is a TN display. The reason why it turns yellow as opposed to any other color is because it's simply a characteristic of the display. I have had TN's that turn red at an angle, despite regular blue(ish) LED's. I've also had TN's that turn green, also with regular white/blueish LED's.

try to increase the blue color contrast and brightness a bit, see how that helps with the yellow color you are describing.

Re: AUO B156HW01 v.4 (FHD screen) so brightness/strong colors problem
I just checked my screen, and can confirm that the FHD display has a reddish tint when viewed from the left, and a yellowish tint when viewed from the right at around 40 degrees. It increases as the angle increases.
Although these screens are nice, the viewing angles will never match IPS displays. You will just have to adjust your viewing angle to avoid the change in colors and calibrate the display properly
