T410 high temps normal?

#1 Post by MrT » Fri Apr 08, 2016 7:34 am

Just picked up a T410 i7 2.66 nvidia 3100m, flashed the latest BIOS, cleaned out the heatsink/fan, applied arctic mx-4, even lapped the heatsink a bit with a polishing cloth, pretty much all the stuff I did with my T60/T61's which always worked out well. At idle, the CPU/GPU sits around the lower 40's but when running Prime95 the CPU slowly creeps up to 95C  Same when I play WoW, CPU gets 5-6C close to max temp and the GPU gets up to 85C. Do I possibly need a new heatsink/fan? I have to say it does look pretty wimpy compared to the T60/T61 heatsinks though, and where is it drawing air from, there's like a metal support bracket thing that sits right on top of the intake and unlike the T60/T61 there's no slotted vents on the rear of the keyboard bezel near the fan?

Also is there any way to undervolt the CPU? Throttlestop doesn't seem to allow any voltage adjustments and the Intel Tuning Utility won't install (unsupported platform?).

Thanks for any info!

Not that I've noticed, I always clean it afterwards with some isopropyl alcohol though.

i had the same issue with my i5 520m it kept reaching 105.c (i had artic 5 paste) when i upgraded to a i7 640m my temps was lower 40's
ive never had a issue since.

I asume the problem you might have is a defective processor that reaches higher temps then the i7 of the same that you have.
which in simple terms is that the cpu is on it last legs and will need to soon be replaced.

when i saw how long my t410 was used (using crystaldiskinfo) it said the hdd was used for 1.5 years out of the 5 years of its life so i was confussed how it was over heats to 105.c and shuts down? it could either been to the previous owner using it at very very high temps at times, or could be due to it not being used (most likly my issue)

if u do want this sorted out i would recomend u get the i7 640m as the t410 supports its pga988 socket and its qm57 chipset

they can go for around £60-£50

best of luck!
