3rd party batteries for T430s

#1 Post by obermotz » Sun Apr 10, 2016 3:42 pm

Hi, a have just bought a 2nd hand T430s and it came with a T420s battery. Unfortunately the T430s cannot charge it, as the Battery Safeguard used in the T43x series prevents that. My question would be about the availabity of 3rd party batteries for the 430s - are there any available and where to look for them? A genuine Lenovo battery would cost more here in Hungary than the price of the T430s (paid cca. 235USD for it). Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if there are any 3rd party batteries that the T430s can charge.
Starting with the W/T 530/430, Lenovo checks to see if one of "their" batteries
is in the machine before charging.

You could get a T420s and use it to charge your T430s battery...
Daily Drivers: W520 i7-2860QM | T420 FHD IPS i7-2640m | W701
Others: W510 | T400 | W500 WUXGA | 701C (on its shrine) | R61 14W (in the boneyard)
Non-TP: Dell T7500 (workstation), Dell m7510
Currently Experimenting With: T420s

You could patch embedded controller firmware to remove battery authentity check. See this thread.
For those who interested in buying X220/X230 FHD kit: Read this before sending me a PM!

Does the patched firmware for the t430s remove the battery check? I'd love to be able to use some cheap 3rd part t420s batteries...
Also I can't seem to get the file to flash to begin with on my t430s, I get error 81 no bios file found?
Thanks!

I'll try making an iso and making a bootable usb with rufus. Maybe that'll do the trick, if not I'll try the older method here https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/wiki/ecmod.

Also does the ec mod remove battery check on the t430s or not?
Thanks.

What did you attempt, and what failed to the point where you say no success? I'm attempting to modify the EC firmware on my T430s as well with a hardware programmer
T430s: i7-3520M | 16G | B140HAN01.0 IPS | 2 x 120G SSD | Flashed EC for T420s UltraBay Battery | Arch Linux + Win 7 | CoreBoot Soon to Come :)
